In the year 20 BT (before Tivo)

Ok, so this will show you how big a dweeb I am. When I was really young, there were two pieces of mail I loved getting more than anything else. One was the Sears Christmas Wishbook. I can remember sitting on the couch with my mom and going through the whole thing, cover to cover, picking out what I wanted for Christmas. That's actually a cool memory. The other was the Fall Preview edition of TV Guide. I used to go through every day, picking out what I thought would be the hits and misses. (See...dweeb)

So when I find a site that has images of every TV Guide ever published...well, I know what I'm doing for the next hour. And If you're anywhere close to this level of dweebiness, you may get a kick out of this, as well.

(I'm walking over to go sit in the dweeb section because both of those ring way true....and for the record, the JC Penney Christmas wish book was just *not* the same)

As a grown up, I found that the Neiman's Christmas catalog is a great substitute for the SR&Co experience...

I'll check it out! I've actually went on eBay and purchased a couple old Wish Books. I use them for Jellio research, and reminiscing. We also used to get the Montgomery Wards Christmas catalog.

Funny, but I was just reminiscing yesterday about how the JC Penney catalog used to be a prime source of sexual fantasies for me in my preteen years. You know, the bra and nightgown and hosiery selections were seemingly endless, and provocative in a Mary-Tyler-Moore-on-the-Dick-van-Dyke-show or Suzanne-Pleshette-on-the-Bob-Newhart-show kind of way. If your mom walked in, you could have the page folded so as to rapidly flip right over to the model trains or airgun page, although hard to explain why you were so flushed and sweaty on the couch.

The sad thing is that now my preteen sons (and not their dad, nosiree)can watch full color wide-screen video of anal involving plastic surgerized porn stars for free at the touch of a button. I don't mean to rhapsodize about lost innocence, but it is rather a startling contrast.

Examples of testing the envelope of hormonal hotness on my 1970's TV:
1) Any episode of Charlie's Angels (so many discussions about the rankings of Farrah, Kate, Jaclyn, Cheryl, Cheryl...)
2) Any episode of Fantasy Island involving the swimming pool.
3) Julie on the Love Boat, with guest stars like Barbi Benton and Susan Anton. (Remember that Susan Anton variety show with her short, countrified husband?)
4) Cher's freaky costumes on Sonny and Cher.
5) Jamie Sommers on 6 Million Dollar Man and then Bionic Woman.
6) Oh Mighty Isis, Oh Mighty Isis on Saturday mornings.
7) Wonder Woman was almost quite literally too much for me to watch, I would have to change the channels to the Jeffersons or something to cool off.

Thanks for the memories, you dweebs.

Isis was hot.

I thought Julie on the Love Boat was like my personal crush. I was strangely conflicted every 10th episode or so when she would actually have a love relationship of her own ("Julie just went into the cabin of one of the guests!!??") instead of just standing there in her ridiculous sailor suit, winking and flirting like the background eye candy she was supposed to represent. Didn't that actress later have stints in drug rehab or something?
