The End of YesButNoButYes - Goodbye from Evil Rich

(Note from Scaramouch: As part of our final celebrations, I reached out to past and present writers and asked them all to contribute a final story. This one's is from Evil Rich. Enjoy)

Longtime readers might remember me as the guy who did all those comic book previews on Wednesdays that most people never read (actually I had a pretty loyal readership for those and even wound up syndicating it across a couple of other websites). Actually though I've been around since the beginning and even used to post about non-comics stuff though let's be honest, it's the comics stuff I'm most proud of.

But I've been around long enough to remember when YesButNoButYes was just a bunch of ad agency types using pseudonyms so they wouldn't get in trouble for blogging at work. Now it's become something that you can put on your resume. The evolution from a blog where people show off the weird and stupid things they found on the web to a blog where people also create weird and stupid things on the web has been pretty great to watch.

When Scaramouch told me that he had decided to shut YesButNoButYes down my first thought was "What has Facebook and Twitter done now?" We're used to hearing the so-called "old media" newspapermen complain about how they're dying off because the kids are getting all their news from Facebook and Twitter these days.

Well, how do they think the bloggers whose sole purpose was sharing weird and cool shit on the web feel? Before Twitter and Facebook, if you found something funny that you wanted to share with everyone you had to go and either start a blog or manually send out the link to each of your friends one at a time on Instant Messenger. It took some commitment. Now all you have to do is add the letters "RT" to the beginning of someone else's Tweet and you're done. Oh what's that? There's a button that does even that now? Kids have it so good these days. How can a simple blog compete, no matter how good it is? Well, YesButNoButYes has had a great run and I'm glad to see it not go quietly in the night but instead take it self out with a loud and messy blow to the head. I'm sure everyone involved will move on to even better things.

Like Twitter accounts.

Fucking Twitter.

Evil Richard can now be found at his own website where he is publishing an online graphic novel called Nathan Sorry. He's also on fucking Twitter at @RichCBarrett

Hell yeah Rich. If this site has to go down, it should do so in a bloody blaze of glory.
