As a high school ceramics teacher I can tell you, this is probably the most annoying thing to teach my students all year long. It's honestly the best and strongest way to make a handle, but it is murder actually teaching 16-18 year olds this method.
After the 1st quarter of the year, though, the giggling usually stops.

Amazingly, I feel very comfortable and passive, about ceramic mug handles.
They still have ceramics in high school? Perhaps my faith in education isn't completely dead.
