40 Years Since The Beatles Were The Beatles
The Beatles broke up on April 10th 1970. 40 years ago today.

When I read that the date was coming up, there was a temptation to churn out a 3,000 word screed bemoaning the demise of the Fab Four, bitching about how they should have worked out their differences like The Stones or The Who, and blaming Team Yoko.

But ... I'm not going to do that. It was a close call.

Instead, we're going to honor the 7 years and 7 months The Beatles were a rock and roll outfit with 7 songs. 7 of my favorites to brighten your weekend.

Starting with "I am the Walrus", my favorite Beatles cut:

The remaining 6 songs can be seen by clicking below.

Maybe it's spending most of my life in Seattle or New York, but love I the rain. So did John, Paul, George and Ringo:

Taken from the infamous Apple Rooftop Performance is the classic "Don't Let Me Down." Come on, Yoko, don't let us d-- ah ... never mind:

From the film Help!, the gentle "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away":

"Yer Blues" is probably my favorite cut off of The White Album. And brother, that is saying something:

Long live the sitar! "Norwegian Wood (This Bird has Flown)":

I prefer the demo version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." It's an amazing performance by my favorite Beatle: George. I have signed letters with that phrase -- While my guitar gently weeps -- for years. Play it George:

God bless The Beatles.

While my guitar gently weeps,

JW
