NBC screws up again. The above photo was taken by questlove, the dummer for The Roots and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon's house band. He put it up on his Twitter Feed and, well, the shit (rightly) hit the fan.
Here's some more info:
The chef, Leslie Calhoun -- who is black -- said she has been trying to institute a special Black History Month menu for years and was allowed to do so for the first time this year. She said doesn't understand the controversy.
"I don't understand at all," she told NBC partner site TheGrio. "It's not trying to offend anybody and it's not trying to suggest that that's all that African-Americans eat. It's just a good meal. I thought it would go over well."
Not to get off topic but I wonder how many Ghetto Baskets are sold this month.
How about real African food? Bambara, Tabouli, Tajine, Pastilla, couscous, or maybe Caribbean Jerk and black beans and rice. There's more to African cooking than chitin, watermelly and nana pudding, y'all.
Well, what is an appropriate meal for Black History month?
I'd imagine most places won't make a special for it just to avoid any accusations of racism. Anything you serve could piss someone off.
And in another offensive twist... "the dummer for The Roots"
Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.
Not to be Fuzzy Zoeller here but at least it's good eatin'. Better than corned beef and cabbage on "my" day. Like me some Guinness though.
They fixed it two hours later:

All in all, not a big deal.
What, no catfish? Was anybody singing The Camptown Lady while they worked?
Just curious, what if the chef is a Black person who put together the menu to honor his/her heritage through his/her craft? Is it still as offensive?
I think it's the drummer that is the jackass.
Too many people in this world just looking for a reason to get their panties in a ruffle and to ruffle the panties of everyone around them.
P.S. Martha Stewart says it is improper to serve white rice on Black History Month.
I dig the white rice with the black eyed peas though. A little Ebony and Ivory racial harmony there. Nice.
Really? I find it hard to chew to the funk.
Hmmm, I wonder what was served for dessert?

Being offended is for insecure people who care about beliefs more than facts.
Not sure what the issue it, it's considered Southern Food and the blacks did have a major impact on that.
Hell, I would not mind eating it!
