The comedy rap duo Snakes, Billy Scafuri and Adam Lustick, are releasing their debut album "Not Ready to Die" and celebrating the release by offering the entire album for free download at billyandadam.com, on December 8, 2009. Billy and Adam are known for their work writing and performing with the award-winning New York sketch comedy troupe Harvard Sailing Team.
They have taken those same live performance skills and harness the same intensity on the mic for their collaboration as Snakes.
The 1st single off "Not Ready to Die" is a gut busting club banger called Top Dolla (My Dad's a Proctologist) that tackles the coveted business of Proctology and will have a video to accompany over the next few weeks!! The album will be available on Tuesday December 8th 2009 with a record release show on Friday, December 11th, 2009 at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.
In the tradition of Flight of the Conchords and The Lonely Island, Snakes combine hip-hop with comedy to create a very serious comedy rap experience. The group has notably captured the attention of Time Out New York who gave the duo a 'Critics Pick' and said, "[Snakes] may be very white, but it doesn't make them less serious about rap. The beats are real, the lyrics are smart, and the performances are full force." Similarly The Onion says, "Highly competent rappers, loaded glances, and awkward twitches endow the enterprise with enough artifice to make their lyrical themes funny."
Snakes is the collaboration of longtime friends and NY sketch comedy veterans Billy Scafuri and Adam Lustick. After winning Season One of the freestyle comedy rap battle The BEATdown, Billy approached Adam with the idea to form a rap group, and in May they began recording with hip hop producer Rich Royce (Shaggy, Collie Buddz). Since joining forces, the duo has been performing their music, as well as two-man stand up, throughout the city including a monthly show at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre called FutureSex/LoveSnakes. FS/LS is a concert of Snakes music featuring members of Freestyle Love Supreme, I Eat Pandas and Harvard Sailing Team, and the group and their original show have been featured in Time Out New York, The Onion, as well as on CollegeHumor.com.
In addition to working together as Snakes, Billy and Adam are writers and performers for the award winning sketch comedy group Harvard Sailing Team which has produced eight full-length sketch comedy shows, performed to sold out crowds at Caroline's on Broadway and Gotham Comedy Club and have headlined the National College Comedy Festival twice. Most recently, Harvard Sailing Team won 'Best Sketch Comedy Group' at the Emerging Comics of New York awards, filmed segments for Sesame Street and were named the G4 Network's "Kings of Dot Comedy. The Charleston City Paper praised the group after a local performance saying, "Saturday Night Live wishes it was as funny as the Harvard Sailing Team."
