I thought dust storms were only something they experienced in the outback, or maybe Iraq, but apparently one recently rolled across Sydney, resulting in an amazing gallery of photos on Flickr that's almost post-apocalyptic

Awesome pictures. I tell you, only in America.
People look at photos like these and are amazed.....
I am reminded....
I grew up in far West Texas during the 1960's & 70's. This type of dust storm was the norm for us. I have seen many photos of the "Dust Bowl" of the 1930's era...
I kid you not, we lived it. My mother would put wet towels on all the windows and the bottoms of the doors to try and catch as much dust as possible. Which, was not near enough. We would stay indoors for days and just live with the haze in the air. You did not go outside, unless, you HAD too.
You may think, I exaggerate, then I know you were not there!
We could see these "clouds" building up from miles away and they would be rolling up into the sky....miles wide and getting taller and taller...
I have seen the sun blocked out at mid-day until the street lights came on. I have seen, during these "blows" the rain start and mudballs would be falling.
I am thankful, with better farming plans and a greater understanding of what causes these storms..they do not happen anymore. BUT, they did, and they were a bitch!
Wow, the pictures ARE captivating
