If this video is to be believed, and it appears legit, this is one lucky guy.
As he shoots at his target the bullet ricochets and blows his hat off. A few inches lower and he'd resemble Kurt Cobain.
Gun safety.
Some people practice it. Some get nearly killed before they realize they should.

1st, I'm pretty sure that he's looking in the hat to make sure his head isn't it.
2nd, Is "Holy Geez Man" speaking in tongues?
3rd, I love how the gunman's first response to the agonizing gunshot wound is to tip his head into the camera, for posterity.
P.S. I think it is a well-done fake, by the way. Aside from the origins of the term "ricochet" the French are biochemically averse to gunplay.
Am I the only one to notice that he wasn't wearing a hat to begin with? What you mistake as his hat was actually part of his scalp...
I'm with Johnny Velvet. Where was the hat to begin with? I watched it twice looking for it.
I'm not convinced this isn't a fake but I think his hat is tight to his head. It pops off by the brush back.
What is this, the Zapruder film?... Back and to the left. Back, and to the left....
Look at :20. Looks like he's holding a hat. Plus I think you can see a Yeti in the background if you look hard.
I highly doubt this is real under normal circumstances. If he's shooting metal (lead) bullets at a steel plate, the bullets would probably deform and/or fragment, losing most of their energy. If he was shooting a rubber bullet, then it might bounce back, but it wouldn't have the same lethal force to take your head off (hat, yes, head, no).
You want an example, take a brick or chunk of metal and throw it at your car or a larger piece of metal. No matter how hard you throw it, it won't bounce back at you with the same velocity, thus it's unlikely to come back and hit you.
