"Orphan" ** (out of four): Often-histrionic, quasi-Gothic entry in the long line of "evil child" movies suffers from an identity crisis. It's not quite horror, not quite a thriller and not quite worth seeing.

Regarding "Orphan", an often-histrionic, quasi-Gothic entry in the long line of "evil child" movies, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that if you plunk down $12 for this one, you're going to see two movies for the price of one. The bad news is that only one of those is worth seeing, and it's not the one being advertised on the movie posters.

Hey, they dont like this movie either. Fancy that.
I saw this movie on Saturday, the second day it came out.
Right before it started, a black woman sat in the front row with her 4 definately-under 10-year-olds, one so small she needed a booster seat to sit down and watch the movie.
While the 10 year old girl on the screen stabbed to death one of the characters in the film, the 4 children didn't make a sound, and from my viewpoint barely even moved.
A persistent thought came over me as I left the theater - I really don't so much fear the child on the screen as she gleefully killed anyone, I feared the four little black kids who looked up, didn't barely make one sound, and watched the carnage then walked out as the mother yelled at them to "com' on, Demetrius!"
Now, you can call me insulting, or even a racist, but guess what?
Fuck you and call Henry Louis Gates if you feel offended.
p.s - I give the movie *** stars, BTW.
Was there a surprise ending? What was it? That's what I heard.
Nothing that can't be guessed from the trailer.
Does the kid die?
I heard it's a dwarf. I really want someone to tell me that's a joke.
I heard the dwarf thing too but I kind of like the idea.
It'd be funny, they already have the adoption groups hating them, now maybe the little people groups will get up in arms.

Now, now, they like to be called midgets. MIDGETS.
Or, synonym wise: A Lilliputian, a diminutive, knee-high, miniature, minikin, pocket, teensy, teeny, tiny gnome, a homuncule, a midge, a pygmy, a runt!
In otherwords, Ryan Seacrest.
