A new iPhone application is pending approval from Steve Jobs (he approves these himself, right?) called the The Swine Flu Tracker. A little info on the free app:
The Swine Flu Tracker's first tab shows the current threat level - Phase 5 - and brief description from the World Health Organization.
The next feature, likely the most useful, is a map that tracks where the virus is spreading in relation to the user via a "locate me" button. Each pin that pops up on the map offers details about confirmed and suspected flu cases. The data comes from a Google Maps RSS feed.
A third tab provides virus facts and flu symptoms from the Centers for Disease Control, Wikipedia and other sources.
I'm inspired. So, I'm heading to the YBNBY laboratory to develop my own iPhone application. The Swine Flu Hysteria & Xenophobia Alert. The app will direct you to news stories about reactionary idiots that are taking advantage of the swine flu to take cheap shots at Mexican immigrants. Such as Michael Savage saying that the outbreak may be a terrorist attack. Hiding the virus in Mexicans coming across the border in the cloak of darkness and "bring an altered virus from Mexico, put it in the general population."
Yeah, this new evil scheme was to infect potential Mexican immigrants, use covert coyotes to traffic them across the border, infect tens of people and kill one. Never mind that the disease was brought here by Catholic junior high students from Queens coming back from spring break. Bloody hell...
Pending Steve Jobs' approval, my app will be $19.95.
