This one has been going on for a year or so. Dear Jane Sample started it I believe.
Well I finally caught up to it and decided to take part.
For those not familiar with the Brand Timeline idea, here's the gist: during the day you interact with lots and lots of brands. Probably more than you realize or care to acknowledge. To complete a brand timeline you try to jot down the brands and products you interact with during a day, organize and post them, then realize what a sucker you really, truly are.
Nah, you just get to see how many different brands, products and companies you depend on each day.
What follows is a graphic representation of the brands that were part of my day this past Friday, May 22, 2009.
A few things to note about Friday, May 22, 2009:
First, it was the day before the holiday weekend, hence it was a slow day at work.
Second, my office closed early so the afternoon belonged to the Terminator and pre-weekend errands.
Third, no I did not drink and drive. The vodka was consumed after I arrived at my destination.
Morning: 7:15 - 9:30

Work day: 9:30-1

Afternoon: 1-8

Night: 8-12:30

If you feel inspired to make your own timeline, let us know and we'll link to it. And let Jane know and she may post it as well.

Umm, Baier...I didn't need to know about the Scott tissue...twice.
But otherwise, very cool....
One finished. One bought.
Couldn't find the Vaseline brand icon, eh Baier?
That's what the duane reade icon was hinting at....
someone should make an entirely sex related one...
Sorry, never heard of Duane Reade. Glossed right over that one.
Some sort of lubricant manufacturer there in Manhattan that has a store front? Do you have to take a number to be served?
Drug store, found on almost every other block in Manhattan (or at least used to be--is this still correct guys?)
Yes, this is still correct (and growing).
so did they take over all the old Gap and/or Benetton locations?
Nope. They just have opened mini stores (think Staples Express for RX stuff) in any open storefront. DR is becoming like starbucks in NY. One every 1 block or so.
In fact, next to coffee shops, I'd say NY has more drug stores now (CVS, Duane Reade, Wallgreens, Ricky's) than any other city.
Heaven forbid we walk more than 4 blocks to buy deodorant.
I find this very interesting. A day in the life of......sorta thing.
I am seeing several icons that I come in contact with daily, but, others not so much or never. Case in point: Duane Reade...no clue?
Scott tissue..Nah...Charmin all the way!
I never really thought about this, but, is most interesting just how many Brands we do come in contact with everyday. I would think if we noted EVERY brand the list would be considerably longer.
But, B-Man, Dunkin' Donuts after 9:30......I am guessing it wasn't for coffee.
And, then, Subway after 1:00. That is a real balancing act.
Not sure why the "KY" Lube icon was not posted?
This was just a sampling, right?
Arrive at work 9:30 - must get coffee.
Lunch before 1 - never. Hence Subway.
KY - Nope.
Effen, how many Red Bull icons would appear on your daily brand chart?
