LAPD Delivers a Boot to Criminal's Head
Oh boy, LAPD. I have a feeling this may turn into a big story the next few days.

A suspect is in a high speed chase, daily event in L.A., and he is stopped. He makes a break for it through the backyards of suburbia for few seconds and gives up. Then, well, look at 37 seconds in and you'll see.

It's hard to watch. Now I don't know what the offense is other than running from the 5-0, and I couldn't care less if a crook is roughed up a bit, but that's ridiculous. After the kick to the head, it looks like a few baton smacks were tossed in as well.

Are we taking bets? How long until that copper is fired? How much will the settlement be?

I'd have just shot the guy in the back.

said E on May 13, 2009 10:01 PM.

I have no problem with that...who knows what he did and who cares...he obv did something to get in a high speed chase and run the fuck away from those cops like that. People need to shut the fuck up with their bleeding hearts.

I call it "a quiet Monday morning"...

haha about a minute in he's like: AWW did you see that he surrendered and we GOT HIM! were the best! HIGH FIVE!
hahahahah man, so many cops are cops for the wrong reason...

said notjohndoe2 on May 14, 2009 12:12 AM.

E, when you need someone shot in the back who's already on the ground, call the BART Police.

said Oaktown on May 14, 2009 6:06 AM.

etantao, we had something like this here... but at least the officers were 'smart' enough to hide the action behind a vw bus.
There's a music video here where the band kind of protests against the level violence has reached, and they reenacted the scene. They had gone through a huge problem with the cops after that.

said Leonardo Carvalho on May 14, 2009 8:51 AM.

I have absolutely no problem with what happened. This asshat endangered who knows how many lives and possibly took the police away from more important uses of their time.

What bothers me more is the way every newscast sensationalized this like they truly cared, and showed mock repulsion at the cops. Being a cop has to be difficult. You can't ask a man to chase down another man and at the culmination of the chase show compassion for this douche they were pursuing.

said mendoman on May 14, 2009 9:21 AM.

And one more for Jenny and the Wimp!

That was one well-placed boot to the head, I gotta say. And the runner had his head up, not down. I'm guessing that the cop was shouting "Head on the ground! Head on the ground!" for ten seconds before ensuring the head went on the ground.

The cop may lose his job, but it'll be due to public relations, not malfeasance. It is a little known fact but, in America, the police are allowed to use force to expedite or ensure the resolution of a crime.

In Russia, crime resolves YOU!

said Don't Swayze Bro on May 14, 2009 9:49 AM.

Boo Hoo Johnny.

I hate cops but I have to side with the cop on this one.

Put yourself in the cops shoes.

You strap your gun on for the day getting ready for your shift and your little boy comes in the room, gives you a hug and tells you he loves you and wants you to be back in time for his birthday.
Later you start your shift and you hear on the radio that there is a supect that was involved in a shooting that is on the run, You join in the chase. Three or four times you barely escape high speed automobile accidents, all the while you know in the back of your mind that the chase is going to come to an end. Possibly a bloody end. You wonder if your little boy will have a knock at his door hoping it's his daddy with a present, only to find that his daddy was killed by a fricken junkie. All of this is going through your mind as the chase picks up on foot. Your adrenalyn is pumping. You round the corner of a building and you see the guy face down. You don't see his hands. For all you know he's playing dead until you get close enough for him to shoot. You know you can immobilize him with a good clean kick to the head. You do it and make your arrest.

The bottom line. That dude was a bad guy. He ran from the cops, he put many lives in danger. I don't think the cops did the public justice by holding on to the dog. They should have released the dog.

Since when did kicking the bad guys ass become so evil?

Is this Nancy Pelosi standing in for Johnny Wright??

said Dave on May 14, 2009 9:56 AM.

Do I seriously read a blog frequented by this many idiots?

Look at that video again, who the *fuck* does something like that, the guy gave up, went prone (on his own) and the tubby 40 year old cop runs over and gives him one to the skull just to prove what a big man he is. His friend gives him a few to the kidneys just for fun...

...and then they high five.

God bless the USA...
*barf*

said champvinyl on May 14, 2009 10:46 AM.

The sad fact is ... this punk will probably get millions.

That is definitely NOT justice.

This is a perfect example of what I have been trying to share ... how the media feeds us snippets of violent acts because that is what the public thirsts for. Yet, we are appalled when it crosses some magical line of acceptance that changes as the years of viewing this behavior wears on our bleeding hearts. We live in 30-second and 3-minute snippets of information and have grown accustomed to passing judgment based on nothing. In this case, people see an officer that is bullying a surrendering criminal (sorry, alledged criminal). God forbid this criminal goes on a rampage and isn't caught; those people ready to prosecute the police for manhandling someone that just put a whole lot of people's lives in danger will be the very same people demanding to know where their tax-paid, public protection has gone. There's a whole lot more here, folks.

I think Dave sums it up very well. These guys/gals put their lives on the line, and are potentially risking it at any given moment. In my mind, they deserve the same respect that we give others that serve our country. And the same leeway.

said Tim on May 14, 2009 10:55 AM.

I think there are some good points here. 1, if the ghetto bird copter didn't capture it the guy wouldn't be getting fired, and yes, for public relations. It's the world we live in. 2, if the crook is given a settlement, which he will, he is basically rewarded for criminal behavior. That is wrong. 3, Tim is right and there is probably more to the story.

However, you can't go David Beckham on a guy laying on the ground with his arms spread. There has to be some professionalism.

said Johnny Wright on May 14, 2009 11:28 AM.

champvinyl:

Have you been robbed once? I've been robbed way more times than once.

Have you had a gun pointed at your face by a scumbag asking for your money/belongings while threatening your life? I've been there too... many times.

Have you been shot by a crackhead just because you didn't stop to give him all you had? Ohhh... the scar in my arm doesn't lie... been there too.

I had a friend who was an officer. He wasn't violent, always treated the thieves/whatever as decent citizens when arresting them. Once he cornered a scumbag, who did just the same... hands up, threw the gun and laid belly down.
My friend went there to handcuff him and guess what? The sob had a knife, stabbed my friend's partner lots of times--who now is attached to a wheelchair, almost a vegetable--got his gun back and shot my friend's leg and tried to escape. Luckily my friend managed to shot him on the run--right on the back of his head.

The result?
My friend was expelled from the police, faced a cold blood murder trial--luckily the court accepted the legitimate defense argument--, his friend is a vegetable and the thief's family got a huge money from the state for their loss.

So, I do not fucking care if the guy was laid belly down asking forgiveness, promising over his dead mom's tomb and praying 500 holy maries and our fathers... I'd be kicking his shit face until he bled through his ass... until he shat his entire brain.
Those motherfuckers have nothing to loose and we do... And we have to bend over and do whatever the fuck they ask us to.
Do you know what he did? He could be raping a little 5 yo girl, he could be beating the shit off of your granny just to get her medicine prescription and use it to get high.

And you come here to defend him? To say that just because he had prone he was not dangerous anymore? He gave up because he had nowhere to go, nothing else to do.

A good bandit is a dead one.

I rest my case.

I'm sorry guys, but I had to put it out.

said Leonardo Carvalho on May 14, 2009 11:30 AM.

The cop should probably be counseled, as giving a kick to the head does seem to be a bit excessive since the guy is laying on the ground. But, I still don't see anything really wrong here considering the probable circumstances.

Until the lawsuit happens ...

As mendoman points out, asshat rules apply here.

said Tim on May 14, 2009 11:39 AM.

"I'd be kicking his shit face until he bled through his ass... until he shat his entire brain."

Leo, best quote to date.

Chumpvinyl, you and Johnny need to put down the Jesse Jackson autobiography, wake up, and apply the empathy to the guy chasing the criminal.

Johnny, you wanted to kick some guys ass at a night club because they were douche bags with 200 dollar shirts.

Can you imagine chasing a guy with no regard for human life, knowing that if he can sneak in some way of killing you, he will?

The adrenalyn and emotions have to be huge!
I guaran-damn-tee, 95% of us wouldn't stop at one kick in that situation. The other 5% that would quit, quit because their foot hurt.

said Dave on May 14, 2009 12:43 PM.

Dave's got me on that one.

said Johnny Wright on May 14, 2009 12:50 PM.

And if my right foot hurt, I'd be kicking with a fresh new and painless left foot.

said Leonardo Carvalho on May 14, 2009 12:53 PM.

Nothing will be done. The cop is black and the perp is white or Latino. Therefore, no hate crime can possibly be committed. If it was the other way 'round, the sh#t would hit the fan and splatter all the way to Jesse Jackson's palatial mansion. Or on Jackson's idiot bastard son, Al Sharpton.

said Jerry on May 14, 2009 1:39 PM.

Oh, well that changes everything.

I think this needs to be looked at very closely and the officer punished to the fullest extent of the law. Clearly, this is a hate crime.

You know, in the interest of fair play and all.

said Tim on May 14, 2009 1:48 PM.

That boy is clearly white and clearly was going for a gun with his teeth.
Guilty and hell.

No lawsuit.

said Dave on May 14, 2009 2:07 PM.

My money is on: investigation reveals no wrongdoing, police officers suspended during investigation with pay, but reinstated without negative marks.

said limbodog on May 14, 2009 2:08 PM.

It doesn't matter how hard a whiny cop thinks his job is -- ONLY JUDGES CAN METE OUT PUNISHMENT. That is the law. By kicking the suspect, the cop has lowered himself to the same level as the criminal. Only this criminal is funded by our taxpayer dollars. Disgusting.

The pig should go to jail just the same as the scum he kicked. They're both thugs. One just happens to be a taxpayer-funded thug.

said ClintJCL on May 14, 2009 2:16 PM.

I'd double down on the limbodog scenario.

Note the kick: the runner was in a push-up position - great for groundfighting (if you are that stupid. He's a criminal...ergo...) one kick neutralized the position.

End of story. The news helicopter should have just shot him. SKYNET!

said Don't Swayze Bro on May 14, 2009 2:23 PM.

Groundfighting? Good call. He was busting out that midget move from the Jerry Spring episode a couple weeks back. Dangerous stuff!

said E on May 14, 2009 2:29 PM.

Go to the breakfast links and watch, "What is really happening here."

Was that fair?????

Hell Yes.

said Dave on May 14, 2009 2:39 PM.

Leo, where the heck do you live? Sounds awesome.

said Jellio on May 14, 2009 3:41 PM.

I live in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jellio.
But I've lived in Rio de Janeiro too. There is where the danger lives.

MoFo tried to steal me a dog there. A bloody effin' dog.

said Leonardo Carvalho on May 14, 2009 3:50 PM.

whoa, cool... We'r e all international, and s&%t here at YesBut.

I just watched the video, and I think I'm gonna pass on commenting. But I'm sorry about your dog.

said Jellio on May 14, 2009 4:16 PM.

In fact they tried, but I was running faster than them, even carrying a 20 pound Bull Terrier in my arms.

said Leonardo Carvalho on May 14, 2009 4:22 PM.

It's awesome when bad things happen to criminals.

said jlbaily on May 14, 2009 5:09 PM.

Good hustle Leo. Never been held up but I had my car stolen once. I got it back. Basterds need to be kiled.

said E on May 14, 2009 5:11 PM.

The point I was trying to make with the Video Jellio is if you watch it, you think damn. That guy got shot while giving up the gun.
It you watch the video carefully you see the dude is actually laying down the gun and reaching for another gun in his back pocket.
Cops shot him before he shot them.

Watch the video again.
You can clearly see that the guy has another gun in his hand.

said Dave on May 14, 2009 5:43 PM.

Sorry, Dave, I don't see what you're seeing. His arms look like they're spread out far from his body.

But I'm not commenting because we don't know the rest of the story, and I've made a resolution to stop making snap judgements based on short video clips without knowing the whole story.

said Jellio on May 14, 2009 5:56 PM.

Jellio, I'm talking about the video from the breakfast links.

Come on!!

said Dave on May 14, 2009 6:08 PM.

BTW, I like your resolution ya pizza tosser.

said Dave on May 14, 2009 6:13 PM.

you have to keep police in check because if you do not then who will...? They need their behaviors checked.... if you can't do the job right then quit the force. If we let officers get away with actions like this with the argument "oh well that thug deserved it" then eventually the officers will never be held accountable for anything. As it is many officers falsify reports and such.

said bobby on May 15, 2009 6:32 AM.

Bobby, haven't you ever watched the movie Training Day?

To protect the sheep you have got to be a wolf.

said Dave on May 15, 2009 9:23 AM.

Come now. We all know its the 90% of bad cops giving the other 10% a bad name. It's just not fair.

said Elkabong on May 15, 2009 3:22 PM.

EL MONTE -- The L.A. County Sheriff's Department's internal criminal investigations unit will investigate the arrest of a gang member in which an officer kicked the suspect in the head after he had surrendered.

NOT LAPD!

said Chi Chi on May 15, 2009 5:41 PM.

If you're ever in this guy's situation, remember this simple advice:

It's easy to not get kicked in the head, simply DON'T RUN FROM THE POLICE.
