The Sands has a long and lustrous history as a gambling icon. At one time the height of cool on the Vegas Strip, with some excellent jazz albums recorded there, before it was imploded in 1996 to make way for The Venetian. The Atlantic City Sands is now gone too, but that doesn't mean the brand is dead, and walking through Port Authority today, I noticed ads promoting the new Sands in Bethlehem, PA, complete with a new restaurant by Emeril Lagasse.
So the questions is this - which idiot architect designed the new Sands to look like a 1960s Chicken Factory?

Bethlehem is an old steel town. This is the Bethlehem Steel Co. building, instead of being torn down it was converted into an entertainment center.
Not sure...but I do know that Emeril is not the name he used to be--it seems like all of his recent openings are linked to casinos.
The best thing he did in recent times was put his name on the line of pans that that woman used to clobber a burglar with--and gave her new pans afterwards.
Bethlehem Steel Co. is an old mill converted into an entertainment center. It's about an hour north of Philadelphia. There's a great Music Fest in August.
"And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"

Modern architects need to be beat.

I'm getting a good laugh from from the ads they have up in different NYC Mass Transit venues. (Bus station advertising - your guide to quality entertainment). Shows a variety of hot models looking bored around a slot machine (which I think are the principal game in the casino, since they're not showing any table games in the ads.) I have this urge to get a bunch of stickers run off at Staples to slap on that say "NO WOMEN LIKE THIS WILL ACTUALLY BE PRESENT AT THE CASINO WHEN YOU ARE THERE, AND IF THEY ARE, THEY WILL BE IN THE BAR, NOT BY THE SLOT MACHINES".
Always remember kids, anything you think you can get by gambling, you can get by NOT gambling.
Yes, I read that too - no table games. I hate to be a purist about this but a casino with just slots isn't a casino, it's just a games arcade with a fancy restaurant,
