It's April Fools Day. So, beware of internet stories and mass emails about email taxes, gangs are initiating new recruits by killing people at Wal-Mart and Britney Spears posing for Playboy. Actually, that one could be real.
In 1957 the BBC ran one of the great April Fools Day pranks of all time. An elaborate, deadpan report about spaghetti trees. It was a bumper crop of pasta. Keep in mind, this was before pasta was prevalent in the UK. The report was delivered by Richard Dimbleby, the respected anchor of Panorama. Many (some reports say 8 million watched) were fooled and confused.
Before the jokes on April 1st became old hat, this was one of the best. My favorite bit is the instructions on how to grow your own spaghetti tree. "Place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best"
