Last year Miss South Carolina made headlines. Not to be outdone, this year Miss California invents a new term for marriage.

Baier, I think she meant "opposite marriage" to mean the opposite of same sex marriage...as in marriage 1.0 (man/woman marriage).

Wait--did I just coin a phrase with marriage 2.0?

said sarcastic one on April 21, 2009 2:52 PM.

Speaking as a married man, "opposite" is actually quite a good description for the way it can be a bunch of the time.

said Scaramouch on April 21, 2009 2:58 PM.

Given the stressful situation and how provocative the question was, I think that she gave a decent answer. In fact, I admire her for actually giving her personal opinion as part of the answer. That took guts given that Perez Hilton was the one asking the question.

She's from California, it's not like she doesn't know who Perez Hilton is. I'm sure that he took the opportunity to skewer her.

said Tim on April 21, 2009 3:37 PM.

That did strike me as an odd question. Is that the sort of thing they normally ask? Did the next chica get asked for her opinion on the recent Israeli/Gaza episode? She should have said, "None of your fucking business."

said E on April 21, 2009 4:02 PM.

I think this is one of the questions the keeper for the Bridge of Death now asks to see if you get cast into the Gorge of Peril.

said Scaramouch on April 21, 2009 5:15 PM.

This is not NEARLY as good as Miss S. Carolina.

She did a halfway decent job answering this question. She stood her ground on the issue as well.

Plus, she's easy on the eyes. Yowza.

said valeriob on April 21, 2009 5:21 PM.

I do give her credit for speaking her mind when she knew it wasn't going to be popular. Perez Hilton set her up..that is bitchy.

I still do not get why people have a problem with same-sex marriage..live and let live, I say.

said CindylovesScara on April 21, 2009 9:28 PM.

What are y'all talking about? She didn't answer the question at all. She starts out talking about choice, as if she was going to say that gay people should have the choice to marry or not... but then tells that she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. You can hold that opinion and still know that state laws have civil rights issues. (Like abortion, you can believe it is morally wrong and still vote to keep the government out of your body.) She never addressed whether states should allow same sex marriage. She might make a good politician, ducking the question or not. Still, Hilton got out of her what he wanted to know.

said Miss Cellania on April 22, 2009 12:55 AM.

She could've simply said it's up to the people of that state to vote for or against...which they did.

said jw on April 22, 2009 9:42 AM.

Miss C.,

Maybe I heard her answer wrong, but basically she said that people should have the right to choose, but for her personally, she believes in a traditional definition of marriage.

This would be like me saying "You should be able to choose to have an abortion, but for me personally, it's not something I would do."

Frankly, I have to wonder why "the gays" should think that any straights have an opinion... My answer would probably be "I haven't really thought about it. Not being gay, it doesn't affect me."

I was a good non-answer, but was hardly a "fail" on answering a loaded question. The only glaring error is when she says "For my country... For me.." That makes it sound like she thinks that it should be a "county" thing, but in reality, she just flubbed the answer there.

http://omg.yahoo.com/news/perez-hilton-the-way-miss-california-answered-her-question-lost-her-the-crown/21528?nc

First of all, since when did Perez Hilton become a real person. Eeech.

But more to the point, are we now choosing Ms. USA based on how well she buys into the groupthink of... What? "Sorry, your opinion doesn't agree with the fags that run the show sweetie."

"I was ready for my question, and when I heard it from (Perez), I knew at that moment after I'd answered the question, I knew that I was not going to win because of my answer," she said. "Because I had spoken from my heart, for my beliefs and for my God. ... It's not about being politically correct, for me, it's about being biblically correct."

I am not a christian. I don't believe in GOD in the traditional sense. However, I applaud someone for saying what they think even at the cost of fame and fortune. That's called principle. Sorry if people got offended... Would it have been better if she had lied? Would we think so much more of her as a person?

Hilton has since responded with profanity laced tirades against Prejean, and his front page now features her with a badly drawn cock "shooting" in her mouth. Stay classy. How ironic that this is the person running around with his feelings hurt and complaining that she wasn't diplomatic enough.

Frankly, does anyone remember who Miss USA was last year? I sure don't. Who the f*** cares? That said, if I saw Hilton and Prejean walking down the street, I know who I'd want to talk to... And it isn't the ugly gay queen. IMHO, Carrie Prejean, as much as I disagree with her, has my support on this one.

said LostInDaJungle on April 22, 2009 11:33 AM.

Couldn't have said it better myself, LiDJ.

Why Trump has a hard-on for Perez Hilton is beyond me. He had Hilton on The Apprentice earlier this season as well. I guess The Donald has become all about The Drama.

said Tim on April 22, 2009 11:43 AM.

I don't disagree entirely with LiDJ. It was certainly a question asked by a highly biased judge, but this comment:

"Frankly, I have to wonder why "the gays" should think that any straights have an opinion... My answer would probably be "I haven't really thought about it. Not being gay, it doesn't affect me.""

I would appreciate it if LiDJ took a moment to pick a different issue and a different minority to put into the template of this comment. I think he will find that not being of a minority group does not render one incapable of a meaningful opinion. Or some opinion at all.

said Mathochistic on April 22, 2009 2:37 PM.

This whole gay thing is beating itself to death. People are sick of having this issue shoved down their throat (this is sounding gay).

Being a judge on this show is pretty gay and useless. Perez Hilton is a flamer, that's what he's good at doing.

Society has been pretty dumbed down by the gay rights crowd. I am sick of this issue. The gays think they are being progressive? They are being nauseating. If people would just live their life and stop forcing their "lifestyle" on the rest of us, they would find more acceptance.

said Mr. T on April 22, 2009 3:10 PM.

"I think he will find that not being of a minority group does not render one incapable of a meaningful opinion."

I never said I was "incapable" just that it's not something I think about. I really don't care if gays can get married or not. Perhaps to someone like Perez that makes me an insensitive lout. Who cares?

Being in a minority group does not render one incapable of having an opinion, but IMHO, it means that we don't have any responsibility to have an opinion. She gave a non-answer, and now she's ostracized for not supporting their cause strongly enough? It was pretty obvious from her answer that this was not an issue she had a strong and articulated stance on. (That is an understatement.)

The more I mull this over though, what kills me is that they think that being mildly against Gay Marriage makes her unsuitable to represent the US. Well, newsflash sparky, the last I checked, the majority of Americans are against gay marriage. California just voted it down... How does he think it polls in Wyoming?

The DOMA bill passed by 85-14 in the Senate and a vote of 342-67 in the House of Representatives. Last I checked, 4 states recognize same-sex marriage while twenty-eight states have adopted amendments to their state constitution expressly prohibiting same sex marriage.

Personally, because I don't care, I'm absolutely fine with them getting married. Have fun. Sure, I'll vote yes on that one. However, using this stupid pageant as a bully pulpit is over exaggerating the support that this issue really has. Now, you have a situation where the "Gay" leadership of Miss USA wants to tar and feather someone because they don't think like them or act like them. It's a bit like the NAACP putting out a special water fountain for the Whites. It smacks of hypocrisy.

Math, I would ask you this: I someone against gay marriage had directed all of the bile Ms. Prejean has been asked to endure at Perez Hilton for being a supporter of Gay Marriage, what would you think? If "big star A" against Gay Marriage was on Access Hollywood calling Hilton a stupid fag and posting pictures of him with cocks pointing at his mouth and calling him a slut... What would your opinion of "big star A" be?

Perez Hilton has called her a dumb bitch, crowed with glee that he kept her from winning Miss USA... So, now using words like "bitch" to describe women is acceptable? The little butt pirate is all pissed about her inability to be politically correct, and then starts tossing around terms like bitch, slut, and whore. Why, because she's a fundy christian. This VERY nice young lady who is competing in pageants so that as Miss USA she can make humanitarian trips, etc... Now she's a bitch, a slut, and a whore. Hypocrisy.

The upshot of this is she's already got more name recognition than whoever it was that actually won, and she's probably well on her way to being a hero in them thar flyover states. I'm sure the "God hates Fags" people would love to pay her to guest speak, James Dobson would love to do photo ops with her. You know what, I'm SURE she'll tell them all to go to hell. You know why, because of those same principles.

There are enough people out there who really are against gay marriage, vehemently, that attacking this poor woman for basically just not agreeing with them is insane. These girls are so young too. When you were 18 did you have strong opinions about political issues? And how many of them do you still hold today?

And yes, terms like fag and butt pirate are used out of my sense of fair play. I no more use those words in everyday life than I do such epithets as bitch. When in Rome...

said LostInDaJungle on April 22, 2009 3:39 PM.

Dude, I'm so damn tired of the homosexuals trying to make comparisons between the gay rights movement and the civil rights movement.

Her statement was not a statement of hate it was a statement of belief. That douche bag Perez Hilton and the rest of the fudge packing community jumped on her like she was the freshly oiled ass of an Italian Pizza Delivery boy.

That response is hate. Their hate is fueling my hate.

Mathochistic, fudge packing is not a "minority" in a civil rights sence. It's a choice.

Let me illustrate my point.

I grew up with a kid. When we were little he was always curious when it came to mind altering drugs. He started with little things and moved on to big things. He loved that kind of stuff. It was like he was born with this natural drive to escape the world through drugs.
I grew up with other kids that never even had curiosity when it came to drugs. Others did. Some tried them and didn't like them. They never used them again. But my one friend he could never stop.
He became a Junkie. By choosing the lifestyle that he did that limited his rights. He didn't pass drug tests, couldn't get good jobs, didn't do well in school, etc. His rights were limited because he chose the lifestyle that he did. He didn't enjoy the right to call himself "Sober".
I do not enjoy the right of injecting heroin into my arm and forgetting about all of my problems.

Is it a civil rights issue that he can't call himself "Sober" like the majority of people?
But Dave, he doesn't get treated equally living under "Junkie" status. Plus "Junkie" is a horrible name.
Should there be a law suit so he can enjoy the priveliges of "Sober" status?
But Dave, he was born with the natural curiosity towards drugs?
He couldn't help that. He and thousands of other Americans were born with that natural curiosity. It's not fair.
Sober is Sober and Junkie is Junkie.

It's all a matter of choice.

Marriage is between a man and a woman. It has always carried that definition.

I'm don't think that I have the right to call Heterosexual intercourse "Fudge packing" Because it isn't.

If you want to start a club that gives benefits for only dudes that enjoy licking each others balls, that is your right. You are not excluding me because I am white or because my balls are giant, you are excluding me because I don't lick other dudes balls. If I chose the other way I could get in. You are unique. Great. I think I'll jump on board with my natural feelings and stick with the ladies. With that comes its own benefit. A Benefit of choice. If you want to stop licking balls and get married to a lady you are always welcome.

Making this a civil rights issue is absolutely bullshit.

Amen brothas.

The thread is useful without pics.

said Tim on April 22, 2009 6:26 PM.

LiDJ...I never said Perez was a good person, or that I didn't think he was a total douche bag. I also don't think this girl deserves to be smeared. Additionally, that little political opinion I held at 18 about all people deserving equal rights, oddly enough, that one stuck around.

And thank you Dave for this charming comment:

"Mathochistic, fudge packing is not a "minority" in a civil rights sence. It's a choice."

I will now back out of this discussion, lest I lose all my 'sence.'

said Mathochistic on April 22, 2009 7:20 PM.

and to think, Baier was only making fun of her using the term "opposite marriage"

said sarcastic one on April 22, 2009 7:35 PM.

Sence you appreciated that quote I have another one.

Mathochistic, With all of hate that the salad tossers are throwing around, I think the only logical answer would be to give the hate back. Not in a racist hate crime cents but in a "fool me once shame on me, fool me twice, I'm not gonna get fooled again sense."

To quote an old cowboy:
"In our state, we don't take offense to homosexuals.
We take homosexuals to the fence."

I don't know what that means. It just rolls off the tongue.

said Dave on April 23, 2009 10:21 AM.

Dave, 'fence' is code for the man parts...

just thought you should know that...

said sarcastic one on April 23, 2009 10:25 AM.

Don't go trying to interject your fancy PFC lingo into our everyday YBNBY vernacular, Sarcky.

said Tim on April 23, 2009 10:35 AM.

Yessir.

said sarcastic one on April 23, 2009 10:41 AM.

Math, sorry this one got so far off base. In short expecting every single straight person to care enough about gay marriage to have searched their soul for what they truly believe is disingenuous. Not living in a big gay area, in a State that has never had the vote even come up, I think about gay issues... Never.

Doesn't affect me, my friends, only one family member who has never brought up the subject.

When I was a kid, I lived in an area where we only had one black kid in our school. He was just another kid we knew. We didn't think about black/white issues, and frankly, we were better off for it. I didn't care he was black, and hence didn't give two craps what water fountain he used or where he sat on the bus.

Well, I don't care that Perez Hilton is gay, and hence I don't care if he gets married or not. It seems to me like the world would be a better place if more people felt this way. People who want to abolish gay marriage can stop and work on something worthwhile, and Perez Hilton can stop beating up on everyone who doesn't want him to get married and divorced within two years.

"Additionally, that little political opinion I held at 18 about all people deserving equal rights, oddly enough, that one stuck around."

I'm sure Carrie Prejean believes everyone should have equal rights... What that means in practice as opposed to theory is a different matter. I'm sure if she had been asked that broad of a question there would have been no controversy, and even the most rabid gay-hater could answer that one yes. Equal Rights is a platitude, not a political position.

said LostInDaJungle on April 23, 2009 10:49 AM.

we got the opposite of marriage - and a very open conversation. Something we can all be proud of.
