I don't know much about the F-14 Tomcat, except that it was built in my backyard (Long Island) and was the big star in Top Gun.
Oh, and it looks really freaking cool.
Enjoy these choice cuts...

Information break...
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable-sweep wing aircraft. The F-14 was developed after the collapse of the F-111B project, and was the first of the American teen-series fighters which were designed incorporating the experience of air combat against MiGs during the Vietnam War.

Clouds or Smoke? Who cares it's fucking cool.

Hanging with a missile. (Possibly photo shopped.)

Sunrise. Sunset.

Sadly the F-14, was retired from the active U.S. Navy fleet in September 2006. There is one nation that is still actively using it: Iran. Although who knows, maybe Maverick will fly it on training missions again in Top Gun 2.

The F-22 Rocks!
Is that one not an F-14 JohnnieWalker?
It really looks slightly different from the others Baier.
But, I think the F-14 is the coolest aircraft ever. There's a lot of them out there, but this one has been THE jet I always wanted to fly when I was a kid. Think I'll enlist on Iran's army to fly one.
Now, how do I wipe that Top Gun's march off of my head?...
I think some of those are F-18 aircrafts. I could be wrong, but yeah. What?
Picture 2 is an F-18 Hornet
Picture 7 is an F-22 Raptor
Picture 9 is an F-15 Eagle
Picture 4 is of an A7 Crusader refuelling what could be either an F18 or an F14 (can't see enough of the cockpit to be sure - the refuelling probes on both aircraft are in this location).
Ha. So this turns into an aircraft edition of "From the Air"
I probably shoule revise the title of the post...."Cool ass photos of military jets."
3rd from the top is definitely photo shopped. The F14 is a pretty big jet. The "missle" (which I think is actually a torpedo) is larger than an external fuel tank. Torpedos and missles are big, but not that big. Even so, the F14 is too fast to carry a torpedo or bomb.
It may be none of the above. It is made by Raytheon, and last time I checked they were not in the business of developing warheads.
Actually, that looks like a cruise missile to me, something that Raytheon does make. Also, it looks like the missile is closer to the camera than the F-14, creating the appearance that the missile is huge.
Actually, that's a cruise missile not a torpedo. Plus, I don't think that's an F-14 either. Look what you did Baierman: You created an internet nerd argument. HUZZAH!
Ha. I am thankfully hiding behind a wall of airplane ignorance. I just loved the photos.
Fighter planes are just cool - no matter the model. The right photographer, or in this case photoshop knowledge, also helps.
I actually have seen a jet break the sound barrier, as shown in one of these very cool photos. I was on the deck of a carrier (Stennis). The ring was visible, the moment the sound hit us it was diaphragm shattering. Then there was a light almost pieces of soap foam snowing down on us. I can't think of another way of describing it. Like soap bubbles, light fluffy, foam like stuff. Compressed air, or I don't know what the hell it was, but it was an experience I'll never forget.
I got Kenny Loggins in my head now - 'Highway to the dangerzone!' Not crazy about this.
E, now I will have to shoot you.
Of course, that also puts the Top Gun beach volleyball scene from before Tom Cruise was a raving idiot and Goose was on ER in my head....
I remember Meg Ryan in that, before she became America's Sweetheart.
Where did you get these, they're awesome! I want them in high res for my desktop!
