I previously posted the story about what may be up there on my mysterious second floor. Today, there really IS a strange man in my attic! Or two or three. I got a building permit yesterday and the bank says the loan is no problem (but it will take a few days to get me the cash, naturally). Since my contractor can't stand to sit still, they're already up there banging away, probably destroying everything in sight. On the off chance you are interested, my plans are posted here.

Very cool...
and may I suggest this neat little tool for all the powdery construction dust you will be dealing with?

no, not affiliated with either company...and Scara, sorry about not tinyurl'ing it....
From the photos, I still can't see how they are going to get all of that in there, but how exciting! That's so cool how you are creating so much space out of what has been pretty much nothing for half a century (or however long that inaccessible attic has been a dead zone.)
I wonder if they'll find anything weird, like a jar of pennies, or the death note of the original contractor who accidentally walled himself into the attic, a la The Cask of Amontillado.
Make that a whole century! The house was built in 1905. Taking pics from the ground, you can't see how tall the inner peak is, because all you can see from that angle is the gables. I was shocked myself to see how big it was inside.
Sarcky, I'd love to see you in a color-matching French maid outfit mopping around for the L77ers pleasure... follows a pillowfight session.
Miss C, that's a great make over you're doing there. Just great!
Leo, I charge for that kind of thing...
see my ad on Baier's $10 post....
10 bucks is a fare I can afford...
Good work, looking forward to the house warming!
