This one seems a bit dubious as there was already a camera man in the water to catch the ... uh ... catch. Even still, it's a pretty wild thing to jump out of helicopter and catch a marlin with your bare hands.

Next on, he's jumping the shark...
Seriously ... someone needs to photoshop a Great White jumping out of the water and meeting this dude midair with a nice midsection taste-test.
I hope he jumps head first in the shark's mouth...
Darwin wins!!!
It is my firmly held opinion that there is something wrong with Australians due to them living on the underbelly of the planet. But .. hunting a fish (that outweighs you by half and is three feet longer than you) by jumping out of helicopter takes balls. I'd love to see deer hunters jump off a stand and landing on the neck of a 15 point buck.
Did you get the impression he was disappointed it was just a marlin and not a shark. I bet he would have jumped on a tiger shark if it was there.
But, like all fishing shows, you got to wonder what they edited out.
Just like Hemingway used to do it.
It's real alright ... Matt is based in the Bay of Islands (in New Zealand, NOT Australia!) He's done a few 'keen' stunts with big fish, including hooking up, fighting and then 'tag 'n releasing' a Marlin off a jetski in the bay here. I went along on his first 'helifishing' trip for his tv series - with Kingsley Thompson and Heliops Ltd. The prep work (getting the cameras in the right place etc.) is huge - that would explain how they had a camera crew and boat in place ready to shoot the footage. I just hope that he doesn't have an unfortunate accident like Steve Irwin (an Australian) did with the stingray!
