I think it was sweeps month...get people talking, get them watching, send them off to their day with a chuckle and a smile....
One of the local channels does birthday announcements but it kind of creeps me out, because most of them are kids--which seems cool because they're famous for the day--until you realize that you are announcing your child's interests/fun facts, age, and photo to the general public, including the local sex offenders.
And Cindy, they didn't announce Seymour Titts' birthday because he was on vacation--first Mardi Gras, then a month spent doing the Spring Break circuit.
