Trust Me: Episode 1

trustMe23.jpg
I liked episode 1 of TNT's Trust Me. I've read a lot of conflicting reviews, both good and bad, with those who disliked the show seeming to compare it to much to Mad Men, which it certainly is not trying to be.
I don't watch Mad Men, so I don't have that baggage. But for my money if you want to know what it is like working in an ad agency, especially a big agency, you must watch this episode. (Gone are the glory days of the 60s.)

I found the whole opening part of the show quite accurate. That initial meeting between the creative and account folks. I've been in those kind of meetings, observed creative people behave outlandishly and seen how ideas get derailed for trivial reasons.
So I'll stick around for the next few episodes to see how the characters develop.
And being a fan of 24, I have to see how they play Sarah Clarke's (Nina Myers from 24) character.

There were some good lines in Trust Me as well. Here's two:

Mason: "Carrying me? I've been carrying you so long I've got scoliosis."

Connor: "This is why we got into advertising in the first place, remember? Some kids wanted to be firemen, some kids wanted to be astronauts, some kids wanted to be doctors; we always wanted to be hung-over from expensive booze that someone else paid for while everyone back in Chicago thinks we're working. That was our dream. We dare to dream."

The next episode is Monday at 10. Set your DVRs.

No interest.

I'm sure it's a fine show but I'll pass for now.

Interesting beginnings. Absolutely nothing to do with Mad Men, which is a quality production but a morality play. I lost interest in Mad Men around episode 2.
