The Seven YBNBY Prizes of Xmas - Day 1

xmas_prize_day0.jpg

Welcome to the great YBNBY Christmas Giveaway. Above you see seven different prizes that we've collected for a Holiday competition (which I snapped under my tree this morning), and one lucky person will be winning all seven. According to my calculations, there's over $250 in retail value there, and it's a bunch of cool stuff. Some of it is left over from previous competitions, some of it is new especially for the end of year.

Here's how we'll do this. Each day for the next seven days we'll unwrap one specific prize and feature it on YBNBY. All you have to do to be entered for the competition is leave a comment on any of the seven stories telling us which was your favorite YBNBY story or feature of the year. If that seems like a lot of work, just pick the one you read last :) On Monday 22nd, I'll pick a winner at random, and contact you for your mailing address, and ship 'em out

Now, the bad news - because this box is kinda heavy, I'm afraid we're restricting entries from the 48 contiguous US states only, as shipping this box overseas would just cost an arm and a leg.

With that said, let's unwrap the first prize...

The first to be unwrapped is a leftover from an old competition, one of three that nobody claimed - The Onion Movie on DVD. I haven't watched it, so can't tell you how it is, but there are plenty of clips on YouTube, and if it's even half as funny as The Onion paper, it's worth a bucket of popcorn.

Enter away - oh, and while you can only enter once per day, you CAN enter EACH day, so the more you enter (up to seven times), the more chance statistically you have to win. Probably.

My favorite story of the year was actually not really a story... it's the series of caption competitions. There are some funny people out there, and I love reading what they come up with.

It was fun putting the name to the Rock Star silhouettes.
But I hit your site daily...so changes constantly.

The bacon stories managed to top every previous one again and again.

I'm calling a tie for my favorite YBNBY of the year -- between all things bacon, and Echowood's recent guide to the office holiday party.

As for the prizes, what are the odds that behind those silhouettes are a bunch of sex aids?

Commuting stories are a must read now. I miss Frank's wit.

My favorite today would be the story by Bigus Dickus on the fake bacon followed closley by the article telling us about the free swag!

Mine was not actually a post, but on election night y'all ran the live blog, and I thought that was pretty awesome!

And this post doesn't hurt either!

It's hard to choose considering the amount of articles I read everyday on here... I'd have to say, as a reformed player, the controversy in comments that the WoW article by Echowood caused was pretty amusing from this summer.

I agree with Courtney, the live election blog was pretty cool.

1 - Uwe Boll's Favorite Films
(Particularly memorable was the David Lynch link there. Weirdest thing I've seen in some time).

2 - Top 10 Bizarre Deaths

Like the film reviews, the caption competitions, the chopshop competitions, and really dug the election live blog that was a good day indeed.

Sort of jumping the gun here, but:
Man of the year - Eliot Spitzer, setting the bar for men, and setting it nice and low.

Jumped the Shark - the word 'Maverick', Rick Rolling (sorry Rick).

Shock of the year - Chinese Democracy actually came out.

2008 was a kind of a fucked up year. On the plus side I got into The Wire and bought them all on DVD. Highly recommeded.

The Caption Competitions are great....many, many informative and fun posts and vid's....but, I have to go with the election live blog. That was genius.

my favorite that springs to mind today was the hairdresser challenge to Dave (I can't remember which challenge # that was, but it still makes me giggle when I think about Dave's suave technique answer)

Fuck you I'm an Anteater. That shit cracks me up.
Eating a friend? Ja!
The guy trying to pay a outstanding bill with a picture of a spider.

But what do I matter. Being an international reader I'm not getting the prize anyway. I just thought I would add my 2 cents.

In September of 2007 you had a post, I think it might have been a breakfast link that had "the most rockin' song ever" or something like that. I actually spent two days at work, working my way backwards through your archives to find it and what song was featured. It turns out it was one of you breakfast links and it led me to another sight, but still.

I don't want the prizes (although it would save on shipping fees, Scaramouch..), but my favorite of the year was anything by Echowood..love that guy!

said CindylovesScara on December 14, 2008 6:00 AM.

uh oh...Cindy, you're not going to change your name, are you?

that might just be awkward for the rest of us...(we're the children of the family around here)

Scara, take notes on whatever she's hinting for...even if it was something from Target that ended up in one of your posts...

said sarcastic one on December 14, 2008 9:43 AM.

Damn....I knew I should have held off on my writing ambitions until after the holidays....maybe the winning writer will get a prize also.....hmmmm...

My most recent fav is the 10 things not to do at an office holiday party. I love the top 10 lists.

I think the best feature of the year has been the Forum. Although there are lots of posts I've loved (the Dave's challenges, the pit of hades, Echowood boogaloo at Lindsey's apartment...) but having a place where we loyal readers can start our own threads (mostly based on what's on the blog and some of our threads ended up here) is just the best you guys could do.

Uh, and can I vote for Thomas as the appearance of the year? This guy came from out of nowhere, saying that Dave was dead, mocking on 'evryon', saying love words to 'leomom'.
Whoever is behind Thomas, you're great. He can make me angry and make me laugh at the same time. On the same comment.
