Name that Rockstar - The 80s

videoRock_highlighter.jpg

Just in time for Christmas, ChopShop have released the third and final installment in the Rock Series Tshirts (In case you missed it, here's one and two). This one's extra cool as not only are there 31 pop, alt and rock stars from the years 1980-89, there are also 16 videos on the screens to figure for a bonus.

And as before, we have one T shirt to give away to a YBNBY reader...

Here's a bigger numbered version of the image. All we have to do is put names to silhouettes. The person who contributes most, in my opinion, will get the shirt. That could be the person who contributes the most names, or it could just be the person who gets the hardest figure. I'm totally biassed, so don't expect fairness.

Have at it. You can click the image below for an even bigger version. And even if you don't win, these make very cool Xmas presents. I have both the robots and aliens shirts (glow in the dark, no less) and get comments on them all the time.

8 = Cyndi Lauper
4 = Madonna
and is 10 = Tina Turner?

15 = David Lee Roth (from the Jump video)

said Gavvo on December 11, 2008 8:39 AM.

Also, the video under 25 looks like the moonman intro from MTV when that started

said Gavvo on December 11, 2008 8:40 AM.

2 = Boy George/Culture Club
5 = Michael Jackson
10 = Tina Turner (agree w/sarcastic one)
13 = Eurythmics (Sweet Dreams are Made of This)
14 = U2/Bono
19 = B-52's (that's gotta be a beehive)
25 = Prince
23 = Stray Cats
21 = The Cure (?)
12 = looks like that chick from Men Without Hats video
17 = The TV screen looks like a reference to Ratt, is that the character as well?
22 = has gotta be Billy Squier from the Rock Me Tonight video

said The Muggler on December 11, 2008 8:49 AM.

19 = Pat Benatar? (the B-52s girls wore more skirts from what I remember--that looks like a Pat Benatar (or maybe Joan Jett) wide 80s belt)

Scara, you had to choose an addictive contest on a day when I need to write two final exams...ugghh!

Awesome! You're right SO, this stuff is like crack...

Anyhoo:
6 - Rob Hyman from The Hooters

said E on December 11, 2008 10:01 AM.

1 - David Byrne from Talking Heads during his big ass suit phase. Anyone else see this, it's kind of a stab...

said E on December 11, 2008 10:06 AM.

16 - Glenn Danzig of the Misfits
23 - Sting from Every Move You Make video.
27 - Billy Idol

said E on December 11, 2008 10:15 AM.

My additional guesses would be:

18 Might be Shakin' Stevens
21 Robert Smith (The Cure)
22 Jon Bon Jovi
26 Terence Trent d'Arby
28 Looks like Elvis, so could very well be Nick Kamen

As for the TV screens:

The one behind 31 is Robert Palmer - Addicted to Love
The one behind 5 I think is ZZ Top - Gimme all your Lovin'
The one below 25 looks like Rammstein, but that's not from the eighties.

And I'm pretty sure Rick Astley isn't in this picture :-)

said Dennis on December 11, 2008 10:30 AM.

Okay, I'm not trying to win this--but I had to ask if, and where, Springsteen is (or was he on the 70s shirt?). The mid 80s were kind of big for him, but I can't figure out where he is. (I'd recognize his butt if that was the silhouette though)

said sarcastic one on December 11, 2008 11:36 AM.

oops--just re-read the 70s post. Springsteen was on there and there are no repeats.

said sarcastic one on December 11, 2008 11:50 AM.

Is number 11 a chic or a heavy metal dude? What yall think?

said E on December 11, 2008 11:54 AM.

SO, Bruce kind of spans the 70s and 80s. Hell, he's still out there now, but yeah, he kind of did own the mid 80's.

12 - Stevie Nicks ? (that's her style of dress no? If I could make out a black shawl I'd know it was her.)

30 & 31 are Paul Simon and Chevy Chase from You Can Call Me Al?

() said Doug on December 11, 2008 1:40 PM.

okay. as usual. i say whats wrong only and only discussing what figures. we can do videos separately.

no: stray cats, ratt, squier, astley, benetar, jett, hooters, shakin stevens?, dArby, jovi, elvis (c'mon people, generation), kamen, nicks (see 70s), simon (see 70s) and definitely no 3rd party things like the chick from the safety dance video.

a few of the videos mentioned so far are right and a few guessed wrong ARE in the videos.

i almost added springsteen, but felt his critical period was the 70s with things like Born to Run.

Video 7 looks like a large ball or something.

My monitor sucks ... video 3 is almost totally black to me.

Damn Tim, I think you got it with Sheila E. Don't know about Jan Hammer but it certainly could be him.

The vids are a little small for me to make out anything, though I can see the Moon Man.

'I want my MTV!' Well, I did once.

said E on December 20, 2008 5:55 AM.

E - The funny thing is, I ended up figuring out the two videos that I was looking at, and came up with Twisted Sister and Steve Miller Band. When I went to write them up, I realized that I must have been looking at the wrong videos all along since they were already listed as correct answers under different numbers. Obviously, I don't understand that numbering scheme for the videos ... but I think that I know which two are still in question now. The one next to sihouette 13 and the lower one next to silhouette 7. Right?

As far as Jan Hammer is concerned, he wrote the theme for Miami Vice. Although I didn't rewatch the video, I think that the image might be from there.
