German Goaltender Robert Mueller isn't fighting for the starting job, he's fighting for his life.
And chances are he's going to lose. One day.
Despite this grim news, he's not quitting.
See Mueller, who plays goal for Kölner Haie in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, has glioblastoma, an incurable brain tumor.
Most patients don't survive a year and only 3% live longer than 5.
No matter how long he lives, the tumor will never stop growing so he'll face more surgeries and chemo for the rest of his life.
But Robert is still fighting and stopping shots. Last week, after coming back from his second surgery, he returned to the ice to a standing ovation and finished the last eight minutes of a 5-1 victory over the Nuremberg Ice Tigers.
He's thankful to have the support of his family and just be back playing the game he loves.
I'm thankful he's showing the world how to stay positive despite the bad things that life throws at you.
