Popstar Guitar - Wii Game Giveaway

IMG_7480.JPG

The friendly team at XS Games sent us a review copy of the PopStar Guitar Wii game, and my kids have been happily playing it this weekend.

IMG_7482.JPGIt's kind of a Guitar-Hero clone, but aimed at a much younger crowd. There's more than 50 songs include music from The Jonas Brothers, Fall Out Boy and Miley Cyrus.

The game comes with two "AirG " adaptors, which you clip over your Wii remote to turn it into an air guitar. Your kids can compete head to head or form their own band. For an old dude like me, I didn't know most of the songs, but I'm sure many kids would love this under the Xmas tree.

The game is to buy on Tuesday for Wii and PS2, but if you're a cheapskate, we're going to let someone take away the review copy (slightly used) by registering and leaving a comment on this story telling us which song they really wished was featured in one of these games. Sex Pistols? Beatles? Osmonds? Sigue Sigue Sputnick? The best answer as judged by me at the end of the week will get the game. Rock on

Andrew W.K. - "Party Hard" would have been a GREAT song to pretend to play. Hehe

said fubar42o on November 16, 2008 2:11 PM.

"I Like Big Butts" by Sir Mix-Alot would be great. The sight of a bunch of little kids wiggling their rear-ends to gain points and win a date with Prince/Princess Big Butt would be just precious.

Wii could sell out entire stadiums with little tyke tournments.

or, since it should probably incorporate the guitar, how about "Green Grass and High Tides" by the Outlaws?

said Tim on November 16, 2008 3:05 PM.

Green Grass and High Tides is on the first Rockband...

said fubar42o on November 16, 2008 5:41 PM.

I'm not entering, just commenting....
I'm thinking that you are going to have a reeeaaaallllllly difficult time getting that review copy away from the participant pictured above--the last photo has a 'make my day' clint eastwood air about it...which I find hilarious!

It is? I need to look at the first RockBand. I never would have expected "Green Grass and High Tides" to be included. You have to have some endurance for that one!

said Tim on November 16, 2008 7:13 PM.

We'll start tame...

Guitarzan, by Ray Stevens

Star Spangled Banner, by Hendrix...pending "waggle" gives you feedback.

This might be a surprising pick for some, but Geek USA by the Smashing Pumpkins would be fucking incredible. They already picked Cherub Rock, but that was just the natural pick--one of their most popular songs that pretty much everyone will recognize, and damn rocking too. But Geek USA is the better guitar song. It starts off with a fucking bang--none of this slow build up bull shit, it's just them fucking smashing right off the bat.

Then, it starts getting wilder and wilder and you're waiting for the shit to explode. Just building and building after the second verse and chorus. You wait for it--then insane break down. So fucking mellow, the definition of "Quiet before the storm." After a bit of this, there's a little drawn out BOOM guitar that really fucking lets you know what's about to go down.

Of course, the storm needs to come. And it does. Fucking Billy Corgan just wails on the guitar--for about a minute 15. It's not all wild, but it's slamming.

In the final minute, it's just your classic heavy Smashing Pumpkins guitar--big and brooding.

Might not be a popular pick, and there's a good 50% of people who hate his voice, but I love the pumpkins and think they rock.

Here's an old video of them playing the song. I couldn't find the master on youtube (Billy with hair--wild): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMkjOIROR4w

I refuse to buy any of these guitar video games until one of them includes the song with the greatest bass line of all time: The Fraggle Rock theme song.

said Joe on November 16, 2008 11:21 PM.

If i had to pick a song that I would love to see...

Fish Heads - Barnes and Barnes LOL

but seriously... Eruption - Van Halen or Machine Gun - Jimi Hendrix exclusively for the fact that they both have what I think are some of the best guitar solos of all time.

Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus (or as my 5 year old says "hannah-tana") Fall Out boy, talk about hitting the parents with what the kids love. My 3 kids who would probably go crazy for this game.

The new Guitar Hero World Tour lets you create songs to play. So if you WANT to play the Fraggle Rock theme song, then just rip it and make it, hehe. And I think Green Grass & High Tides is a downloadable song in Rockband, not a stock one.

Looky there, three little Scaramouches! Don't tell me your daughter looks as much like you.

said Miss Cellania on November 17, 2008 6:32 AM.

Miss Cellania..she actually looks the most like him..4 little scara clones..:)

said CindylovesScara on November 17, 2008 7:08 AM.

First of all, those boys are darling - you can totally guess their personalities by their body and facial expressions.

Since Eruption has already been mentioned, how about Suite en Espanola by Andres Segovia on the limited edition Guitar Masters for Wii Guitar Hero?

said molli on November 17, 2008 9:33 AM.

Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Duh. Every kid should get to know Brian May and the late great Freddie!

said jdocmartin on November 17, 2008 5:36 PM.

ANYTHING from 311 would have been great as well. Guitar Hero World Tour has Beautiful Disaster, but THAT'S IT! No Transistor, Use of Time, Light Years, or anything!

How 'bout some Nine Inch Nails? Parents would love for their kids to rock out to Mr. Self-Destruct. :)

...or maybe some Nickelback?

said BlackoutXIII on November 18, 2008 2:33 PM.

Nooooo not Nickelback! They have no songs worth playing. I believe that There are a couple of NIN songs out there for Rock Band 2 and the new Guitar Hero title, as well. I don't think that any of them ar Mr. Self Destruct, however. Maybe It will be DLC someday.

said fubar42o on November 18, 2008 9:42 PM.

I'm surprised that more people haven't posted. That's awesome tho because we all have about a 1/10 chance of winning the game, hehe. My stepdaughter would like this game. She rarely plays her Wii anymore because she only has Mario Party 8 on it and we have Guitar Hero for the XBOX, hehe. Well, good luck everyone!

said fubar42o on November 20, 2008 9:44 PM.

is there a winner yet?

said captain america in underpants on November 21, 2008 9:07 PM.

Not sure. The post said that a winner would be drawn at the end of the week. Saturday is technically the end of the week so we'll see today, hopefully.

said fubar42o on November 22, 2008 1:55 PM.

well, i was going to say eruption...but someone already did, i would like to hear some greenday in one of those games though

said captain america in underpants on November 22, 2008 2:33 PM.
