One more guest for tonight's YBNBY liveblog

jlanier.jpg

The excitement is building here on the team for tonight's liveblog. Even though the race may even have been called by 9pm, we're planning to have some fun - and a mixture of celebrations and commiserations.

We also just got word of one extra guest who'll be joining us tonight - Josh Lanier, who was a candidate for US Senate in Georgia earlier this year, is a supporter of Barack Obama and a long time friend of YBNBY. He has a busy night of events but has promised to look in if he can and join the conversation. We're very pleased that someone with Josh's experience will be stopping by to participate, along with our other guests.

The liveblog is here, starting at 9pm EST.

Glad to have you, Josh! Uh, Mr, Lanier!

Let's have some fun tonight, Miss, uh, Cellania! I'll bring a tray of BLTs -- hold the L and the T -- and some diet cola.

said Josh Lanier on November 4, 2008 2:46 PM.

I don't think either candidate adequately explained their position on bacon this year. Pork, yes, but never bacon.

said Scaramouch on November 4, 2008 2:53 PM.

Perhaps I was overly optimistic, but I took McCain's promise to 'slice through the pork' as being support for the proliferation of bacon.

said Tim on November 4, 2008 3:13 PM.

I believe I saw a photo of Obama ordering a BLT at a campaign stop. But I imagine he's open to other kinds of bacon (turkey, beef and veggie). I'm not sure I agree with him on alternate bacon lifestyles.

When it comes to bacon, i'm a traditionalist - it's pig or nothing.

Obama ordering more pork? That sounds about right!

said Tim on November 4, 2008 3:26 PM.

Here's where they stand...on bacon.

John McCain
I couldn't find much of anything about McCain's eating habits, other than he apparently eats like a college student:

"Apart from this morning’s fritter and coffee, he’s had a handful of potato chips and a can of Red Bull...There are trays of chilled Chinese food stashed up front, fallout-shelter eats that are now dug out and served in plastic boxes on plastic trays. McCain picks at a bit of fruit, chokes back a cold egg roll. “I really don’t eat well,” he says. “I eat junk. I kinda get pumped up at these things and don’t have much of an appetite.” He consents to filling the last corner of his stomach with a fortune cookie. "

With a diet like that, I can't imagine McCain would be opposed to the occasional strip of bacon.

Barack Obama
Finding information about Obama's bacon-eating habits was not easy. There are a lot of rumors on the Interweb about him being a vegetarian, and since I've always been a bit skeptical of vegetarians, I was starting to wonder about the Senator from Illinois. But that was before I ran across this article about a recent breakfast meeting between Obama and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"The two political titans ate at the New York Luncheonette at 135 East 50th St. in midtown Manhattan, where they talked for more than 30 minutes...Obama munched his bacon, eggs over easy and toast and Bloomberg his scrambled eggs and potatoes..."

So in terms of bacon, I guess Obama's still giving Hillary a run for her money, even on her home turf.

They are both fans of the tv show The Wire, so that's good.

said E on November 4, 2008 4:03 PM.

Baier - I think you better check Grandma Memma's napkins for Obama's bacon and eggs ...

said Tim on November 4, 2008 4:19 PM.

She'll take that secret to the grave.

said Baierman on November 4, 2008 4:24 PM.

I say/pay $100 for the most creative use of bacon for an Obama logo. If multiple entries, Scaramouch appoints a celebrity panel of judges. Takers?

said Josh Lanier on November 4, 2008 4:29 PM.

Josh,

check out this bacon tee.

Delicious.

said Baierman on November 4, 2008 4:55 PM.

Baierman - I've asked the "chef" at our local honkey-tonk to come up with something using real, genuine bacon. Hope to see/photo/dine in a couple of hours. I must have that tee.

said Josh Lanier on November 4, 2008 5:31 PM.

Take photos of the recipe - we'll gladly post it!

said Baierman on November 4, 2008 5:39 PM.

Mr. Lanier,
We try to steer clear of the racial slurs like "Honkey-Tonk" around here.
I think a more politically correct term would be "Caucasion-Gathering".

Love,
Dave

said Dave on November 4, 2008 6:10 PM.

I mean "Caucasian-Gathering".

said Dave on November 4, 2008 6:16 PM.

So, Dave, did ya vote? Did we sway you?

said Scaramouch on November 4, 2008 6:44 PM.

Kentucky gets called first! Color us RED.

said Tim on November 4, 2008 7:04 PM.

Vermont goes ... (wait for it)... BLUE!

said E on November 4, 2008 7:15 PM.

What's is Kentucky - The BlueGrass state?

said E on November 4, 2008 7:16 PM.

Yep. The Bluegrass State.

said Tim on November 4, 2008 7:23 PM.

Kentucky's dirty little secret... the grass is actually green.

GO LUNSFORD!

said Brother Bill on November 4, 2008 7:29 PM.

I think that I caught a hint of blue once when the sun was hitting it just right.

Sorry BB, not looking good for Bruce with the western side of the state yet to report ...

said Tim on November 4, 2008 7:41 PM.

Tim, wait until Louisville has its say before writing Lunsford off. I'm still feeling hopeful.

said Brother Bill on November 4, 2008 7:49 PM.

BB - Sorry, I thought that most of that was already in because it's electronic. I know that they said that Mitch was doing surprisingly well; only down by a percent or two in exit polls.

We'll see ...

said Tim on November 4, 2008 7:56 PM.

Thanks for your participation Josh. Best of luck and cheers.

said E on November 4, 2008 11:39 PM.

Mouch, Yes I voted but no you didn't sway me but yes I am aware that Obama won.
Congratulations.
