I just got back from a weekend in PA, volunteering for the Obama campaign.
Read about it on the jump.
Or, if you're avoiding politics at all costs, my I suggest reading the little strip that gets you hard.

Thanks for clicking.
I awoke Saturday morning from my Halloween candy binge-haze and went out to meet a caravan of other Obama supporting Brooklynittes headed to 'Real America' - Pennsylvania - to get out the vote...and crash on my cousins couch.
Our destination was the promise land, Bethlehem.
No shit.
With all the fark about Barack being "The One" I thought it was quite appropriate. We arrived (in Bethlehem Miss C and the campaign send us to) at an Obama campaign organizers house in Nazareth, PA where we found Barack lying in a manger.
Thank god that angel told me to bring mur.
I was put right to work.
Since this was the final weekend, the campaigns focus was on getting Democrats and likely B&B voters to the polls. I learned Nazareth was a GOP-leaning town so every Obama voter we could get would help even the score. We signed in, grabbed our assignments and donuts.
(Mmmm Obamadonuts!)
Day 1 was for phone calls. It was certainly a comfy affair. The house was more like a home office so everyone had a desk, leather chair and plenty of hot coffee. For 4-5 hours I made calls making sure people knew:
1. Where their polling place was and the hours it was open.
2. If they needed transportation.
3. Bring ID.
While the purpose of these calls wasn't to persuade a voter, I did start off every call (from a script) saying I was calling on behalf of the Obama campaign. Most people, surprisingly, would immediately volunteer who they were voting for. The majority were for Obama (like I said, I was calling Democrats, but a few were undecided.)
But I wasn't calling to ask for a vote, I was calling to GOTV (get out the vote). In 2004, I did a more "vote for Kerry canvassing", it was much harder going door to door asking for support. Calling for Barack was easy. If someone was undecided I asked them what the fuck was their problem?... No, I just would say we would appreciate their vote, but I wasn't supposed to get into reasons.
Anyway, I wish I could say I spoke to everyone or even a vast majority of the people on my list, but mostly I ended up leaving voicemail messages.
Nothing eventful happened. One person near me called an old opera singer and was serenaded for a while. But other than a few hang ups, it was a comfortable day surrounded by fellow Dems hoping to bring a little good luck to our side and help keep PA blue.
Sunday, we were back at it, although this time it was a walking event.
Thank God I had my YBNBY Tee to proudly display and confuse everyone.
Yes but no but Yes?
Was I still on the fence? No, I was just some blogger who writes about body paint and NHL cheerleaders.
My cousin took me to another campaign persons house and we spent the day walking door to door hanging....wait for it...door hangers!
Next to the yard sign or bumper sticker, I can't think of anything that won't sway voters more than a door hanger. (Shit Chuck, I was going to vote for Bob Barr but this door hanger really swayed me for Obama.)
The message on the door hangers was much like that of the calls I made on Saturday - filled with the polling place information and VOTE OBAMA in block big type. Again, I was going to likely Obama voters homes so confrontation with McCain folks was nonexistent. (I did notice that most McCain people had 2-3 yard signs on their lawn. Can anyone care to explain this?)
We made 5-6 trips hanging sign and back to the headquarters for new lists and door hangers. Each time we went back to the house we were greeted by more new people getting assignments and chowing down on chips, chili, soda and homemade brownies. (No, the brownies were not laced with anything.)
The host and campaign volunteers were gracious and appreciative.
The mood was upbeat but tense.
No one was really talking politics - just watching football on the big screen. After dropping a few hundred door hangers, I left for the caravan home and got back to the unreal America in time for a doughy New York bagel.
Okay, so not the most eventful weekend. I imagine yours was more fun.
But it felt good to do something for the 2 guys I think deserve a shot at the big time. And it's nice to know that I was one of thousands of people across the country doing the same thing for Barack.
Thank God there's only a few hours left. Then life can go back to shit, I mean normal.
Till Tuesday America....

Great photo, I think I should us that for the T Shirt store :)
You know I'd check out the rest of the post AND the "little strip that gets you hard" too! But I'm confused... was it Bethlehem or Nazareth?
Cool! The new Pepsi logo on a punkin. I vote delicious!
Went to Bethlehem. The campaign sent us to a few towns over to Nazareth. So the answer is both.
Baier - OK, here's my theory.
The people that have 2 - 3 McCain signs on the lawn are the ones that have a member of the Klan living across the street.
It's just a theory.
Either that, or there is a radical Conservative landscaper on the loose in the area. Have you seen any trucks that read "Garden of Eden, Landscaping by Jesus" on the side?
Could be Tim. You never know.
If I had more time and I was still in high school I would have rounded up 30 of those signs and stuck them on one persons yard all over.
That would be funny.
