Electoral Map: How they won through the years.

2008map.jpg

Last night's Obama/Biden victory as you'll see, follows a similar path to victory that all the winners (at least of the past 4 elections) have followed. Win in states you're not supposed to win or that are toss ups. Get out your base and turn out a whole new class of voters.

Barack did it. W Bush did it twice. So did Clinton.

Looking at the maps, after the jump, really makes you realize how much effort has to go into pulling it off.

Look at all 4 of these maps to see how things flipped. Especially in the Clinton 1992 victory vs the Bush 2000.

Hey, I have no problems with your posts, Baier.

But, does anyone know what is with the Fuscia (sp?) states in the last map? They didn't go to Perot. I was in AZ in '92 and I have no idea what that color is indicating? What about the light blue?

Maybe these were states that flipped?

Biden will provide the comedy, like Quayle.

He'll be Abbott to Bama's Costello?

Baier - Let's not call him 'Bama, OK? You'll abandon the SEC vote in 2012. (Except in parts of 'bama.) That's HUGE!

Tim, I posted something just for you.

The red/blue dichotomy oversimplifies. Some states are really one way or another but most are more purplish. Dman MSM.

Wikipedia has a wonderful series of articles on this, with easy templates you can click through to go from one election to the other. I found myself pondering how the maps changed during the years after Carter.
Start with yesterday's election and click back:

Also, in addition to E's comment, the Clinton years you see red and blue states, but you don't actually see the effect that Ross Perot had in those maps.

Wow, Florida really is America's penis. It's a big blue dick right under America's Bible Belt in 2008
