2,700 year old bag of pot FOUND!

weedp.jpg

This discovery has archeologists, researchers and dope lovers cheering...

The world's oldest stash of marijuana has been found in a tomb in a remote part of China.

According to researchers, "The cache of cannabis is about 2,700 years old and was clearly 'cultivated for psychoactive purposes,' rather than as fiber for clothing or as food."

The 789 grams of dried cannabis was buried alongside a light-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian man, near Turpan in northwestern China.
Lets call him Spicoli.

The extremely dry conditions and alkaline soil acted as preservatives, allowing a team of scientists to carefully analyze the stash, which still looked green though it had lost its distinctive odor.

The 18 researchers, most of them based in China, subjected the cannabis to a battery of tests, including carbon dating and genetic analysis. They would have done more tests they were too busy eating peanut butter and devouring pizza.

They've also tried to germinate 100 of the seeds found in the cache, without success. Obviously they don't have the right type of grow room.
Rookies.
I know more than a few people who'd love to give it a try.

i used to quest for knowledge on all levels, i would have spent along time looking for references as to why a white guy 300 years ago got buried with some LBS,,,,(my husband said , "he was probably just trying to make a living...") but at my age now, sometimes it is enough that something just IS.

who's turn is it to hold the bud?

Hey the bud is legal in michigan now. I just need to find a doctor who'll prescribe me some for my PTSD...

Gimme tha bud, E...

That's awesome... I know some guys who'd love to try it too.

Has this MJ still got its psychoactive characteristics? I'd like to know if they've smoked some (or had someone doing it) to see if the effects are better than today's marijuana...

If they had had success planting this sample, they would start a whole new market in Amsterdam for ancient dope. I'd move there right away to start the "China Cafe", selling this little beauty.

Who's the next in line?

Wow, is this thing still burning?!

They really need to get this stuff growing and pump it out into China - I think it could really come in useful over there!

One day, just maybe, we'll be free to enjoy something natural that is scores less harmful or addictive than a number of legal substances.

Ah, the stoner's lament..will we ever be liberated from our bonds??

Until then: puff, puff, pass...

Uhhh...I'd _rather_ smoke this stuff than the overbred stuff that dominates now---I blame Prohibition, which has tilted a plant with a very complicated pharmacological profile of several hundred substances into something overwhelmingly full of THC.

Note: he probably would have _et_ this in some sort of food; until tobacco smoking was introduced world-widge, there is no evidence of anyone having used a pipe (Scythians throwing seeds on hot rocks aside).
