Metallica spots career in new tour poster

metallicatour.jpg

Judging by this new tour poster, aging metal rockers Metallica have looked in to a coffin and saw where their career is headed.

(I couldn't resist.)

Truth be told, the reviews for the new album are quite positive (here's one) and as a huge fan of their pre-LOAD songs, I'm excited about picking up Death Magnetic.

I couldn't stop myself from commenting on the tour photo though. I can't believe they approved it after everything that's happened lately.

Maybe the coffin was where they interred their testicles and talent. Hopefully the body exhumation was a success. If not, Motorhead has a new album out too.

Dude, they are looking at the death of music thanks to all those illegal downloading pirates.

"Yeah guys, that's it. - said Richfield - Who'll be the first to get in?"

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 3, 2008 11:12 AM.

Dan, it's what the music industry wants us to think.

Ok, illegal downloads prevent the band from getting the CD selling money, but the amount they earn for each sold album is cheap. The one's who really are having trouble are the labels. The difference between the production cost of a CD and the price on the tag is huge. Gargantuan, I would dare.

Bands get money from gigs. And licensed products. That's where their money is.

Oh, and they're looking to the grave they dug. I like 'em too much. I even like Load/ReLoad and St Anger fine. But in these albums they are really owing me something. It looks like I have paid for more than what was recorded in those discs. A lot more.
The price I've paid was not worth it, as it was in the first ones.

I want to continue buying all original stuff from Metallica, I always do it with bands I like and I want to keep listening to. But I'll download this album for a test drive first. As I do with bands I don't care to much or I just want to get to know.
I download, listen to it, and if I like it, I buy. Otherwise simply wipe it out from my computer and say a farewell. That's what I'm going to do with this Death Magnetic album.

Hey, Leo, throw the sarcasm filter on and re-read what I wrote. You're preaching to the choir, bro. ;) It's just their famous stand on the issue was worth an interpretation...

said Dan on September 3, 2008 12:06 PM.

My bad, Dan.
And I didn't mean to attack you too. I was just stressing my point of view over this fight of the music industry against the downloads.

No harm intended. ;)

Man, its been 8 years since I've given a shit about Metallica, but that review sounds promising. Could they really have forsaken the devil in Bob Rock and moved back to their roots?

Strangely I feel this tour poster picture has Caption Contest written all over it........

As I spotted this post, it was the first thought I had, Bigus...

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 3, 2008 1:14 PM.

I tried, Bigus, but then got chewed out by Leo. :-P

said Dan on September 3, 2008 1:15 PM.

Sorry Dan...

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 3, 2008 1:19 PM.

But we could just (re)start it...

Aging rockers meditate on arterioslerosis, jam a little, tonight at the Bradley Center.

Okay, I listened to the album, I'd rate the 4th and 9th tracks (The Day that Never Comes, and Suicide & Redemption) worth listening to, and the rest remind me a lot of Load in style, but maybe the better songs off of Load, like the Outlaw Torn.

I guess Unforgiven III is okay, but I really wish they'd stop making sequels to Unforgiven, because they just aren't as good as the first one.

Its a hell of a lot better than St. Anger at least, but that's not saying much. Time to go back to Maiden and Priest for a while.

said kbk on September 3, 2008 3:19 PM.

I don't know kbk....I saw the new video for Priest and it was kinda boring.

said Bigus Dickus on September 3, 2008 3:22 PM.

I was wondering when I saw the set list for the album... What else could they come with for the 'Unforgiven III' lyrics. This came up in my mind, I laughed a little, than I became sad because they had the need to re-recicle a song to fill the album... Hope I'm wrong on that...

"What we've felt, what we've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Outside the door, should we close it for sure?

What you've felt, what you've known
Sick and tired, you stand alone

Should I be there?, 'cause you're the one who waits for me
Or am I unforgiven three?"

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 3, 2008 3:41 PM.

Sorry y'all not everything can be a caption competition but you're always free to caption away.

Metallica will always be the mean, angry, aggressive band that blew my mind in the 80's. Nobody has their sound. I won't buy this new album hoping for Master of Puppets II but I'll have an open mind.

They can't go back and recapture what was lost but I can since I have all the albums.

said Baierman on September 3, 2008 4:44 PM.

I saw Metallica on the Justice tour. They were good. The Cult was opening for them. Good stuff. They lost me awhile back. Probably the Segar cover did it. WTF. Then again, if you'd told me back then that these guys would be spending 40k a month for group therapy and making a movie about it, well, your just a poser, go listen to Guns and Roses you douche.

said E on September 3, 2008 5:21 PM.

Yes Baierman... we can always get back in the good old days. That's what I do too.
But still I'm not happy with what they're playing now... And I'm hoping to find some of the old Metallica in this new album. I'll listen to it wihtout prejudice and with my mind open, not thinking of the three last albums.

Talking about GNR... This Chinese Democracy history will never end, will it? Will they release the album in this century?

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 4, 2008 10:29 AM.

I think Slash just sued some URL for releashing the tracks. What does he care?

PS - is it true Axel got all the band mates to sign their rights away so he collects all the royalties?

said Baierman on September 4, 2008 10:50 AM.

Why would Slash give a shit? He's no longer in the band, is him? It's a long time since I last read something about them.
I have only read about the latest album rumors, to check if it finally comes out. It's taking so long to release that I'm curious about it.

And I wonder why Axl still uses the old band's name... the way it's going I thought he was going to rename it to "Axl Rose and his Douchebags".

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 4, 2008 11:01 AM.

He didn't sue, he just commented on it

Master of Puppets II would be awesome. Especially if they called it

Master of Puppets II: The Quickening.

said Don't Swayze Bro on September 4, 2008 1:11 PM.

Axl owns the name, not the royalties per se.

You know, Leonardo, I heard that this is the year Chinese Democracy comes out. Then again, I've heard that before. What the hell is the dude doing? Playing with all those dials, remastering it? 'Needs a little more treble. No, that's too much...' Frickin 15 years worth of that? Jeez Louise.

said E on September 4, 2008 1:37 PM.

E, I heard once, and I don't know if it's true, that every time he kicked out some member of the band, and another one came in, they had to re-record the whole thing again, so they'd use the 'vibes' from that new guy in the band.
But 15 years to re-re-re-re-record an album, and mix and remix and shove in the ass to see how it tastes, and then: okay folks, from the begining again... 1, 2, 3, 4...

I think that in fact this album sucks and he knows it, and he's doing all he can to make it sound better, and he is making this mystery to get the fans (anyone???) anxious to buy it.

said Leonardo Carvalho on September 4, 2008 2:01 PM.

So far I've heard 2 of the songs The Day That Never Comes and another one i cant remember the name both were very good and certainly 2616516 times better than anything on St Anger. As much as I'd like to hope they made a killer album it will never be anything like the ones of old. I see potential and keep my hopes up. Also, Load and Reload are pretty good albums.

From Chinese Democracy i have the latest leaked tracks and liked just one of about 6.... it would rule if it ever came out and happened to be good but that is very unlikely.

said etantao on September 4, 2008 2:05 PM.

Honestly, the dude just doesn't want this music out there or something? Seems like it. He could be playing tours regardless and he's not. That's some cash he's leaving on the table. Course, he seems to have problems getting to shows...

So he doesn't want to tour, doesn't want to release music that at this point, how much better can it get - somebody call that shrink Metallica used. Actually, somebody must have already. That's $$ for the companies.

Will say this, the story here is going to make a nifty VH1 behind the scenes special. Assuming anyone lives long enough to see it.

said E on September 5, 2008 12:54 AM.

So.. just heard it and it's pretty good, better than i expected actually. That said the old stuff is still better. Thankfully they didn't make any of the god awful mistakes that were ALL over St. Anger. Here you can see that they tried to use their tried and true formula yet still put in some bit and pieces of new flavor but not anything to make it over the top. I'd say it a success with stand out songs: The day that never comes, The Judas Kiss, My Apocalypse and Suicide and Redemption with the last one having a great ending full of solos.

The bad? though good the songs don't really reach the level the band had reached before.

Personally my biggest problem is the fact that The Unforgiven III sounds quite good but it doesn't really resemble the awesome 2 that went before it.

Overall I'd say it a 4/5. But I do believe that can make more 5/5 albums IF they work hard at it.

said etantao on September 6, 2008 4:01 PM.

Thanks dude. I will be buying a CD sometime soon. I
