Regular writer Johnny Wright has often professed his admiration for Oasis, and while I'm probably not quite so ardent an admirer, this is an incredibly cool marketing strategy. To get the word out about their new album Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis leaked four new tracks. But not in the way you might think.
The band gathered 15 street bands, taught them the songs, and then unleashed them across New York - mainly in subway stations - and allowed each to perform their own interpretations of the new tracks. Each had a sign saying "You are the first to hear this new Oasis song".
Brilliant. Read more of the story at Creativity.

That chick is groovy. Yeah, baby, yeah.
This is a brilliant move on Oasis' part. If the song sounds this awesome when played in a subway station with limited instruments, just think how great it will be when Oasis plays it.
OR, using reverse logic, Dogmar is about to hit the big time when Oasis' version comes out and sucks by comparison.
Now, I'm off to find out more about this chick for, uhhhh, future reference.
That sounded pretty good. That said, when I'm commuting I'm not in the mood for music.
I do love the lads from Manchester. Still one of the best live bands on the planet.
For whatever reason, I was totally turned off with a negative bias right from the intro. And the woman just comes off as nuts or trying to hard.
I like the idea initally, but it wouldn't have worked on me. Hearing what could be a widely different cover version than the album version you're trying to sell isn't far off from saying "Test drive a Corolla, but buy a Civic" or "Try Tex-Mex then order Italian."
