You may not know his name, but you know his voice. Don LaFontaine voiced more than 5,000 movie trailers and 300,000 television and radio commercials. He sadly passed away today at the age of 68. Cause of death has not yet been released.
LaFontaine immortalized the line "In a world where _______." I always like "In an world where nothing is as it seems."
While not a master of different characters like Mel Blanc or Paul Frees, Don LaFontaine had one of the most recognizable voices in show bidness history.
A short tribute.

The voice of God. Bummer.
Bummer. I saw so many shitty movies (and some great ones too) cause his voice made the trailers sound awesome.
Judging by his voice and sound, I'd say cigarettes led to his cause of death.
Maybe now he will be the voice of god. Rest in peace Don, and i hope to hear you narrating at the apocalypse.
oh man.....I just saw this and I'm so bummed by it...
but wouldn't it have been cool if he had left behind his own eulogy to play at the funeral?
His voice as God makes so much more sense than Alanis Morissette's....
Even here his voice was well known. Some theatrical trailers come with the original dubbing, and hell yeah, his narration was fucking awesome. With his voice, lots of lame movies looked awesome.
Sorry he had to go.
Interesting point Leonardo. If every movie lived up to the energy from the trailers, well, I'd have seen a lot fewer lame movies.
