I can't believe in all this Olympic coverage I missed the greatest sports event of the year:

Canada's Cannon Ball Championships

Ten "ballers" were chosen to make a big jump off the high dive platform, each trying to outdo their fellow jumpers with elaborate costumes, dance moves and huge splashes. In the end it was Toronto native Doug Bergmann who took home the gold.

"I feel like a superstar," said Bergmann, dressed in a skirt and holding a giant trophy.

In case you're wondering each contestant was judged on four characteristics: style, flair, splash and overall impression. No word on whether they measured how much water actually emptied out of the pool after each jump but I hope this becomes a demonstration sport in the 2012 games.
