Stephen Colbert's 'High' Altitude Brownies

Did anybody else catch this last night? Did Stephen Colbert actually do a whippit on the air?

Earlier in his Report, Stephen Colbert did a funny bit in which he started a pan of brownies using the "high altitude" directions, since he's been in Denver for the DNC all week.

At the end of the show, the brownies didn't turn out quite like he planned, but he went ahead and topped them with a mountain of whipped cream anyway...and gave himself a little treat afterwards. Or at least, it really, really looked like he did.

What do you think?

If you watch his eyes real real close, you can see the moment he realizes what he just said.

i really hate this comedy central player, couldn't watch it here had to go to hulu

Yeah sorry, I'm not nuts about it either, etantao -- it wouldn't let me size it any bigger. I couldn't find that clip on Hulu, though, just the whole episode. But if anyone can find a Hulu link for the above clip, I'm happy to switch it out. :)

Now, back to the matter at hand...on-air nitrous hit, or fakie? His eyes, and the way he exhales toward the end, seem pretty authentic to me. Like, maybe he faked it in rehearsals, then decided to really do it during the show? He seems a bit shocked, like he's trying to keep it together.

You can only do a whippit with the nitrous that comes out before the whipped cream. Once the whipped cream comes out you can't get high off of it. That's just how it works, folks, but nice of you to think the worst of the guy for it.

I couldn't say if it's real or not but looks like fun, I'm off to the shop.

Come on have any of you ever treated yourself to a whipped? This is not real... you have to do the whippet BEFORE you let the whipped cream out of the can, otherwise the pressure is gone and you just get a mouthful of whipped cream, which is what he did.

haha he actually hit that. watch the last two seconds you can see that moment when the whippet hits you. he just smiles.

If the can is pointing straight up , no whipped cream will come out, only gas.

Thanks for pointing this out. It made last night a lot more entertaining.

I saw this the other night and asked my self the same question. But as has been pointed out once the cream has been mixed with the no2 it has to be tapped to separate again. If he had tried to do it he would have had am mouthful of whipped cream. And Daniel if you don't believe me give it a try. Having worked at coffee shops for few years now i have become far too well versed in the distractions this devilish dessert topping can provide.

Its not real. You can't do a whip it after the cream comes out. You have to do it first and without shaking.

You can certainly dispense gas after dispensing the cream, but it's more obstructed; tapping helps. Therefore it's definitely POSSIBLE that he inhaled nitrous oxide on national television, (doubtfully enough to really mess him up) but I don't think it matters whether he did or not.

The interesting point is that he would even make that joke. I think it's pretty fucking ballsy to slip a reference to inhalant abuse, even if it is on comedy central and a show with a college demographic. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing, and to regard it positively. *Gasp* Go Colbert.

Oh you can definatly do a whippit from a can after its been used. It just makes it so u cant get the rest of the cream out cuz u did too many whippits! Point it straight up... little to no cream comes out and you DO get fucked up. Go Colbert.

If you hit the can after dispensing cream, via an upright can the way Colbert does, a tad bit of it will come out followed by just gas. You can see what sure looks like him starting, pausing to swallow the bit of whipped cream, and then start again to take the "big hit".

As someone who has, um, observed a whippit hit or three, the very end of the clip after he exhales sure looks like he has a case of the grinning giggles coming on strong.
