Federal Agents just found something interesting inside the Mall of Americas in Miami:
a storage room full of marijuana.
200 hydroponic marijuana plants to be precise.
Each plant is standing 3 to 6 feet tall in the air and worth millions of dollars, in a storage area on the second floor of the mall. Authorities said the electricity that powered the lab was diverted from the mall's main power supply.
The culprits have not been caught as of yet, but word is they're pretty bummed out and looking to score an ounce or 3.
Here's the local news report with some funny captions.

Millions? 200 plants are worth Millions? I think I need to sell some pot to CNN anchors... I'm not sure which is crazier, that or the notion that the mall is going to explode... Explode? Really? No, really?
For those of you who don't know: Each plant might produce a pound of bud. Assuming that these guys sold each pound for $2,000, we're talking $400,000 worth of pot.
the news is prone to exaggerate LIDJungle. Thanks for the true stats. Nice to know we have a true bud expert around.
"Each plant is standing 3 to 6 feet tall in the air "
Where else would it stand? They musta tested it out to make sure it was the real thing...
Would the Yankee Candle store be good for masking the smell of pot, or would the cloying odors of vanilla, lavender and cinnamon worm their way into, and destroy, all the bud? Maybe that could be the new product--pot that already smells like incense. For people who don't fucking hate scented candles and incense, that is.
Am I wrong to imagine that for the potential windfall profit makes it worth while to gamble on more than one such potential grow site? Set up shop at more than one hiding place, and if at least one goes undiscovered until harvesting time, you've fully recouped the losses from any plants and materials that might have been lost to discovery, no?
LostInDaJungle--They're live plants that can be harvested from, more than once. Meaning that you can gain more than a pound per, you just have to be patient and a non-shitty farmer! It's like corn you can smoke! Hooray for science!
Baierman, I'm assuming the ones prone to exaggerate here is the DEA... The "News" is just doing it's usual bangup job of uncritically repeating whatever they're told without using their brains.
I looked it up... http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/NEWS/press06/083006.html
The DEA assumes that each and every plant has the potential to produce 1 pound of pot, with a street value of $4,000 a pound. That's still only $800,000...
From NORML:
"It should be noted that law enforcement's model when estimating marijuana's weight and value differs from the above paradigm. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officials have long argued that a typical marijuana plant grown to harvest yields one pound (454 grams) of marijuana. However, most experts argue that this estimate is highly unrealistic. For example, data gathered by the United States Sentencing Commission supported the conclusion that the actual average yield of marijuana plants is 100 grams."
Awesome find. I wish all malls had that.
