When your team is mired in mediocrity year after year, you do what you can to get butts in seats.

For the last few years my favorite hockey team, the New York Islanders have used cheap, young skin.

They call them the Ice Girls. Cheerleaders, on figure skates, who clean the ice around the nets and benches between TV timeouts. (Least that's the excuse they use to get them to prance around a few times each game.)

Each year the outfits seem to get skimpier and the girls more flirtatious. Attendance still varies but no guy goes home completely unhappy.

So if this sounds like the gig for you, grab your skates and a mini skirt cause the Ice Girls are holding tryouts, this Saturday, August 9th at 9:30 a.m. at the Islanders Iceworks facility in Syosset, NY.

The tryout is open to all women 18-years-of-age and older. You should wear form-fitting athletic clothes, come with your make-up complete, and be sure to bring your own figure skates and headshot.

Based on the crop of current Ice Girls, it also might help to be blonde, overly tan, bleach your teeth and show lots of cleavage.
