The winner? Ghostbusters. Damn right Ghostbusters.
I also agree with Vacation at number two. Beverly Hills Cop at three seems high. Good to see Spinal Tap and the immortal Big Lebowski as respected as they should be. I have no idea how Clerks made the final 25. A terrible, terrible movie.
Here's the Top 10
1. Ghostbusters
2. National Lampoon's Vacation
3. Beverly Hills Cop
4. This Is Spinal Tap
5. Office Space
6. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
7. There's Something About Mary
8. The Big Lebowski
9. A Fish Called Wanda
10. Dazed & Confused
Don't cross the streams...

"Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"!"
favorite line EVER
I can't agree with that list at all, not that those aren't great movies but there have been many others funnier than those.
Ghost busters at #1. PFFFFFT!
Vacation absolutely, but Ghostbusters at number 1 is crap. That show wasn't even funny.
I mean dont' get me wrong. I love Ghostbusters, but #1, that's the dumbest damn thing I have ever heard.
I mean where the hell was Happy Gilmore? Sure Sandler has bored us and sucks now, but that damn show was funny. He fist fought Bob Barker for hells sake! That was funnier than Ghostbusters.
What about Dumb and Dumber? That was a hell of a lot funnier than Ghost busters.
"Damn Right Ghostbusters" Are you high? I can't believe you gave it a "Damn Right" reverend Wright.
I rather eat gummy bears that Jellio dropped on the floor at a peep show than give a Damn Right to Ghost Busters.
Damn Right to Vacation and Damn Right to Chevy Chase getting screwed out of that one.
I considered quoting the God line Angie. Also considered "who brought the dog?" and "Okay, this chick is TOAST!"
Trying to pick a Ghostbusters quote is like picking one song from The Clash. Very difficult.
No Animal House?
Damn right Ghostbusters you punk. Mind your tongue young man.
Rock the Casbah Johnny always rock the Casbah
Ghostbusters fits on my list right after the Boyz in the Hood and before Schindlers List.
You would seriously put Ghost Busters over Vacation??
Dude, you might as well have Spit on an American Flag in my book.
Screw you and Screw YesButNoButYes!
I'm fricken out of here for good.
Nazi!
Oh yeah, Just kidding.
But seriously G.B. over vacation?
What about Fletch? Where was that? That's a damn funny movie.
Where the hell was Fletch???
Damn Rights Fletch!
"I rather eat gummy bears that Jellio dropped on the floor at a peep show "
is it gummy bears exclusivly Dave or would gummi worms also be accepted?
maybe am i missing a joke?
Like they say in the US:
FLETCH! a hell of a lot funnier than Beverly Hill Cop.
Gummy bears are exclusive to Jellio.
Gummy worms would not be acceptable.
KIND OF LIKE NAMING GHOST BUSTERS THE FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER!
Johnny, the city has changed you man, it's changed you.
I bet you are wearing a Kobe Bryant Jersey as we speak.
God Help me, I Cant help it... I Liked Clerks. The bit about the independent contractors killed while working on the death star, that was priceless.
Randall is my hero.
Now that is over the line.
This is clearly why Dave should be president of the UNNA. Vacation was WAY funnier than Ghostbusters!
("...she has eleven cents dad")
or
("...Eddie says after I have the baby, I can quit one of my night jobs")
How the hell does Ghostbusters even compare? The kids in that flick said it themselves...
GBs: "When it's something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call?!?!"
Kids: "HE-MAN!!!"
And yes, Fletch was a funny ass movie (his doctor's visit is classic), but I'm gonna have to say Beverly Hills Cop is funnier than Fletch.
("...I was gonna call it Michael Jackson is sitting on top of the world, but now I guess I'll call it MICHAEL JACKSON CAN SIT ON TOP OF THE WORLD, AS LONG AS HE DOESN'T DO IT AT THE BEVERLY PALMS HOTEL...")
[you guys know the rest]
This was back when Eddie was actually funny, and I really miss that.
Dave - Ease up on the Kobe comment man. Not cool. Okay?
#1, I'll give on Eddie Murphy, It's been a while since I've seen it.
Thanks for having my back on Vacation.
Johnny, perhaps I went over the line on the Kobe jersey comment, but I'll bet you are at least wearing a Dennis Rodman Jersey..
Damn Right.
Ah, when Eddie was funny and only played one role... Those were good times.
Did I miss anything? Sorry I had to take a dump. I didnt' have any toilet paper but I had a picture of Gary Payton laying around and he worked just fine. Now I know why they call him "The Glove".
If I had to put a Bill Murray movie on the list, I'd take "What About Bob?" over Ghostbusters any day.
Scaramouch. Dude. Best Bill Murray movie of all time is "Stripes".
That is it Dave. A shot at Gary Payton gets you 12 hour probation. All comments will be ignored until tomorrow morning.
So let it be written, so let it be done.
Johnny, please take Dave off probation. I'm sure he didn't mean it. We need him active in the campaign, and 12 hours is much too long. He may have meant to say Shawn Kemp after the weight gain and the marijuana possessions...
(sorry, that was just out there)
Pray for me Reverend. I have sinned....and I have porn... Oh! And I have cancer too.
I'm sorry Johnny did I say Gary Payton? I was wrong. I went to the can and the picture didn't flush. I looked a little closer and it was actually a photo of Jack Sikma. How did I make that mistake??
That's right turd streaks right across Jack Sikma's face.
Damn Right!
Ignore that for 12 hours.
Dave, I think you may have just pushed the Good Reverend over the edge.
BS list. Old School? PLeeease.
Personally I like Raising Arizona. If you don't think that movie rocks then my name ain't Nathan Arizona!
"Is it true that he may have been abducted by aliens?"
"Aww please don't print that, if his Momma reads that, she's just gonna lose all hope"
Huge points to CLC_o8 for a funny Shawn Kemp reference. Only thing funnier would have been if you mentioned his 33 illegitimate kids.
However, Gary Payton, we do not besmirch.
I almost said something about his illegitimate children, but the final count isn't out yet.
I know, and I got thinking about it. I would like to make a public apology.
Dear Johnny,
I realise that as I read about the funniest movies of all time, frustration got the better of me. I also realise that as a result of that frustration I was internally hurt. I had nothing. Perhaps because deep down I realised that in fact GhostBusters is probably funnier than Vacation.
I had nothing. I threw the Kobe remark out just because I knew that it would dig you.
After I had crossed the line I could only find myself so far across that I could'nt get back. So I threw out the Gary Payton remark.
I didn't mean that Johnny, how could I? Finally out of nowhere the Jack Sikma remark came and...
Damn Johnny. I didn't mean it.
I just turned into Jeremy and spoke in class today.
Which leads me to my apology song, co-authored by Eddie Vader:
Alone, listless,
Breakfast table in an otherwise empty room,
I am a Young girl, full of violence,
Centre of my own attention.
The - Johnny reads aloud,
Dave - tries to understand it,
Tries to make him proud.
The shades go down, it's in my head,
Painted room,
Can't deny there's something wrong.
Don't call me Dave, not fit to,
The picture kept will remind me,
Don't call me Dave, not fit to,
The picture kept will remind me,
Don't call me...
I hold the hand that holds me down,
I will - rise above!
Don't call me Dave, not fit to,
The picture kept will remind me,
Don't call me Dave, not fit to be,
The picture kept will remind me,
Don't call me Dave, not fit to,
The picture kept will remind me,
Don't call me Dave, not fit to be,
The picture kept will remind me,
Don't call me...
The shades go down...
The shades go down...
The shades go... go...
Johnny, I'm sorry, I hereby place myself on a 108 hour probation from YBNBY.
I don't deserve your company.
We shall cut the probation to two hours due to proper contrition.
Catskill is 100% right. How is Raising Arizona not on there?!? That is shameful. I can't believe I didn't realize that at first.
Dave is a young girl full of violence?
I gotta be honest, I love the Ghostbusters, grew up on the Ghostbusters....
But vacation is probably 'funnier'
no offense rev
None taken. I love Vacation.
Motorcycle Cop: Do you know what the penalty for animal cruelty is in this state?
Clark: No, sir, I don't.
Motorcycle Cop: Well... it's probably pretty stiff.
Type something will ya? We're paying for this stuff.
I'm just gonna mention Blazing Saddles & Young Frankenstein, that's it both of course better than Ghostbusters.
Also: fuck Kobe Briant, asshole!
I've got to agree with those who wonder where the heck are Animal House, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Fletch.
Somethin' screwy about this list, or my name isn't Belvedere...and it isn't.
Animal House...the epitone of bad taste filmmaking by the entire staff of National Lampoon
Strange Brew...the best two-dumb-guys-in-trouble movie.
One Crazy Summer...sensitive, romantic beach comedy with Bobcat Goldwaith impersonating Godzilla.
Brain Donors...one of my faves! John Turturro as Groucho Marx, sort of, in a remake/reevaluation of Night at the Opera.
and Nuns on the Run...Eric Idle as a romantic lead, and it works! Two guys chased by the mob duck into a nunnery and put on habits.
(guys, the list is for the past 25 years...Young Frankenstein and Blazing saddles were 70's works)
I should have commented earlier...
I subscribe to EW, and they were so very, very strict about their 25 years limit--their thought was that the lists always focus on the 'of all time' aspect and cheat the movies of the 80s to present...hence the 25 year rule.
Blazing Saddles....1974
Animal House...1978
Young Frankenstein....1974
I love Mel Brooks....but I also adore Kevin Smith and his Jersey Chronicles---and the fact that he used George Carlin so well--not so much in Jersey Girl (who wants to see sentimental George? Well, now that he's gone, any footage of him is welcomed), but definitely in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back....(you can skip Mallrats, and as a girl Chasing Amy was lost on me...but watching Clerks and Clerks 2 back to back, recommended)
( I didn't think I was going to love Clerks 2--why mess with the original--then the scene with Kelly left me rolling on the floor)
Vacation is funnier than Ghostbusters...
Seeing the letters to the editor in the next issues, they got their earful from the masses....
Well, I haven't google-fu'ed anything yet but I'm pretty sure Animal House, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein are older than 25 years. As is Caddyshack and a ton of other hilarious films that others may consider an ommission.
But to the creator of this list, I say: Thats just, like, your opinion man.
You think the carpet pissers did this?
I think we're starting to drift beyond the "25 year" cut-off. No doubt Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein were some of the funniest of all time. I'm even trying to remember if "Vacation" would be eligible for the running.
"Raising Arizona" - classic! I don't know how that one slipped my mind!!
("You got them funny shaped ballons?"
"Well, not unless round is funny")
Here are a few more that I would have liked to see on the top ten list:
"Johnny Dangerously"
"Dogma" - (some folks will disagree with this one, but I'll say it anyway)
"The Princess Bride"
my bad then, forgot about the 25 year thing. i agree with Dogma a great one that i love is State & Main.
Alright...somebody has to do it. Here is my list. Controsversy ensues.
1. Big Lebowski
2. National Lampoon's Vacation
3. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
4. Wedding Crashers
5. Tommy Boy
6. Office Space
7. Meet the Parents
8. Spaceballs
9. Xmas Vacation
10. Planes, Trains and Automobiles
curlyelk - very nice.
I totally forgot about "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Christmas Vacation" and "Tommy Boy". The others are questionable.
"Spaceballs"???
you've never seen Spaceballs? good one from Mel Brookes spoofing star wars, not his best but funny
Some made me laugh but might not be classified as comedies per se but so what, great art trancends, no? My list, in no particular order:
1. Something About Mary
2. Planes Trains and Automobiles
3. Clerks
4. Kingpin
5. After Hourse
6. Pulp Fiction
7. Road Trip
8. Go
9. Old School
10. National Lampoons Vacation
BTW, numero 5 should read - 'After Hours'
I notice nobody said bupkiss about Woody Allen. He was funny once kids. Long time ago, people would go to his movies and honestly laugh.
Roadhouse.
I think Woody's funniest were more than 25 years ago....
and, if you name is Woody and you start dating your daughter*...well, that's just creepy...
* yes, I know, adopted daughter of your girlfriend....still, she went from calling him Daddy to, uh, yeah....calling him Daddy...
you name = your name
I concede that Woody's great days are behind him. But, try Manhattan Murder Mystery, Bullets Over Broadway and Scoop. They're aces.
special for the Rev.
Sony has hired Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, Emmy-nominated writer-producers on the Steve Carell version of "The Office," to script a "Ghostbusters" sequel that would reunite Venkman, Stanz, Spengler and Zeddemore.

Please let it be so. Thank you etantao.
Cheers.
Reverend Wright
I like the show Kingpin.

not really sure how I feel about this one though.
