Scaramouch, da boss man, gave us a report from the New American Music Union in Pittsburgh last week. An epic collection of eclectic bands. American Eagle, who sponsored the hootenanny, has made some video available from the show. Performances by The Roots, Spoon, Gnarls Barkley, and the incredible Raconteurs.
Unfortunately, I can't embed them for you, but by clicking here you can see a sweet new Raconteurs song called Top Yourself (my favorite song on the new record) and a ridiculously good version of Steady as She Goes.
Part of what makes Jack White so astonishing as a musician is displayed in those videos. Jack plays by feel. With an axe in his hands, he's a freaking blowtorch. The songs never really sound exactly the same each time played live. The White Stripes don't use a set list. Ever. It's raw emotion.

man i love them raconteurs; jack white is a kickass guitarist and has got a killer voice and attitude...
which do you like better, the white stripes or the raconteurs?
I prefer The White Stripes. But that's just because it is basically Jack on his own. And it's more blues based. I love the simplicity and rawness of the Stripes.
I basically love any music Jack touches.

JW-That was the most Homoerotic statement you have ever made.
