I thought some of our literary fans might enjoy this Ballantine Ale ad featuring Ernest Hemingway from days long ago. This one was part of a famous Ballantine campaign that included many popular iconic writers (John Steinbeck was also featured) describing their thoughts about America's largest selling ale. Well, at that time Ballantine was America's largest selling ale, today that honor is owned by a Belgium/Brazil brand.

Sorry, I don't know if Papa actually penned this letter sober, or in an Ballantine induced haze, or if some schlock ghostwriter wrote it for him. Those who know his writing better than me could probably tell us the answer. (And yeah, I know the scan of it sucks. My apologies.)

I would wager Hemingway did not write the copy. The sentences are too long. Though we was fond of starting sentences with "but" or "and."
He wouldn't have written "we keep it iced in the bait box with with chunks of ice around it." It probably would have read something like "She rests in the bait box, cooled with chunks of ice."
Thank you for referring to my hero as Papa. He would have liked that.
