We have some weekend monkey news. High fives all around. Up top, baby.

After we brought you, uh, "news" about the monkey prison last week, we've had a few monkey related items sent to us. I was sent a link with the title; "Indian School Names Monkey God Chairman"

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Screw Hillary dropping out of the race four months after she should have and begrudgingly endorsing Barrack Obama while forcing a smile on her face and pretending she's trying to do what's right for the party, this is news.

I preface this with a short disclaimer. I am not having a go at Hinduism. Not at all. If there was a new Christian Business Academy and they chose the Holy Ghost as their new chairman and/or mascot, I would find that almost as funny. This story happens to involves monkeys and I am a child.

From the article:

Hanuman, the popular god known for his strength and valor, has been named official chairman of the recently opened Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management in northern India, a school official said Saturday. The position comes with an incense-filled office, a desk and a laptop computer. Four chairs will be placed facing the empty seat reserved for the chairman and all visitors must enter the office barefoot, said Vivek Kangdi, the school's vice chairman.

He has an office! And a laptop! I bet the damn Leprechaun at Notre Dame doesn't have an office.

Kangdi went on to say,
When we were looking for a chairman for our institution, we scanned many big names in the field of technology and management. Ultimately, we settled for Lord Hanuman, as none was bigger than him.

I have no doubt the graduates of Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management will go on to be captains of industry and rule the world.

One more bit of monkey news. Concerning the naughty monkeys in India, astute reader Trailwaze, a valued member of the Loyal 77 that actually read this stuff, related this story:

"When I was in Deli a few months ago I was able to see the monkey business first had. They. Are. Everywhere. They are in the trees, on the cars, on the people, in your hotel room (REALLY!). I had one drinking out of a coke I left by the bed. The little bugger opened the door and helped him(her?)self. Have you ever tried chasing a monkey in your boxers with a towel? They are mean and have no fear of their larger cousins. They had signs all over (in broken engrish) warning us to beware of the monkies! On the plus side, hotel management gave me a free coke for my trouble. The funny little man that came up to the room with it could not stop laughing. (I figure this is because I recanted the entire episode to the front desk)"

I was gob-smacked by the tale.

Trailwaze was then kind enough to fire off an email titled "Monkey pix for Johnny." Awesome. I was so excited I took a Ritalin.

The email said, "The little red ones were the type found in my hotel room. The gray one is a lemur. The red ones are terrified of the lemurs and used as crowd control by the Indians. (They have handlers that bring lemurs to monkey trouble spots and chase the offenders away.) It is too funny to watch the two interact. It reminds me of football hooligan videos. These were taken in Jim Corbett Park. My camera suffered a severe lack of compatible batteries in India, so I was not able to capture the one at the hotel." Hope you enjoy!"

Indeed I did. Two of the pictures are below.

The Indians have several movies about the life and times of Hanuman. Animated and live action, adult and child oriented. It is strange to turn on the TV and see cricket, cricket, monkey god, cricket. Oh, BTW, they do not like to hear Westerners refer to Hanuman as a monkey god, even though they do it themselves. Typical double standard common in all cultures.

I have been reading your site for a while and never thought that I would be a subject of an article. When I saw it I sent it to all my friends. The pleasure in the geek center of my brain went on overload. I think I have some pix of Hanuman statuary somewhere on this drive. If I can find them I will send them to you.

Keep good up work the!

When you give me gold like a monkey drinking a Coke in a hotel room, what choice do I have? Can't let that one go past the goalie.

Thank you for sharing your story and pictures with the rest of us.

I think a culture where the people use thier left hand to wipe thier butt is eventually bound to be taken over by monkeys.

Oh, it great!

You get a hole in the floor, no TP and a spigot with a hose attached. You have no idea how nasty it is. There are usually no sinks or soap in the public restrooms. God knows whose poopy hands have been on the hose they provided.
