Hugely influential guitarist and rock and roll pioneer Bo Diddley passed away today at the age of 79.
Many know Diddley from his cameo in the classic Bo Jackson Nike ads, but he is incredibly important to the history of popular music. He was known for his use of a custom square shaped guitar and the so called "Bo Diddley beat."
Bo is often mentioned as an influence to such musical giants as Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood, Buddy Holly, Bruce Springsteen, The Edge, Jack White and even Elvis Presley.
He is one of my favorite axe men of all time and will be missed. If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they have a helluva band.

'Bo Diddley put the rock in Rock and Roll'
That he did, my friend. That he did.
Bo knows Jesus now.
A sound is gone.
If Bo could have copywritten that beat, he would have been a rich, rich man. Every rock band known to man has played that beat. He was one of a kind.
Ain't that the gospel truth, pdxme. The gospel truth.
