Who You Gonna Call?
ghost_280_495541a.jpgThe U.S. of A. is playing the Three Lions of England today in a "friendly" at Wembley Stadium. So I was perusing some of the British newspapers online. On the admittedly trashy yet entertaining Sun, I came across this story.

A Scottish teen claims to have photographed an apparition on the staircase of an ancient castle in the Highlands. The family claims they did not know the image was there until they uploaded the pics onto their computer.

With modern photography software, who knows what it is. But it is kind of cool looking.

Being that the photo is from Scotland, I can't help but wondering if that is my Great-Grandmother. Nana? Is that you?

I call bollocks on that photo. Let's say it were actually a ghost... why would it need the use of a handrail? Shouldn't it be able to float up (and through) stairs?

Excellent point. Slimer didn't use the stairs.

Maybe there are clumsy ghosts that need a little stabilization, but I doubt it.

I am a sucker for ghost stories. Is there any more information on this apparition?

All I know is what the Sun link says. I think they had the story and photo first, but it's being picked up steadily. If I find more, I'll post it.

If anyone has new info, let us know.

If it's in The Sun, it must be true.

That is so totally fake: upon close inspection, you can see an industrial stage-smoke machine, a synthetic coagulant painted on the steps to gather the vapor into a humanoid form, and the tell-tale tracer image of a satellite broadcast projection of facial features on the "apparition." The kicker is that the unusual spacing of the interlacing on the stairway railing obviously indicates that this stairway is a set built at 2 times normal scale so that the gross detail of the smoke-ghost could be made more fine in later reduction with the assistance of some green screen CGI.

Either that or photoshop.

Very impressive use of the word "coagulant."

In all seriousness, Echowood has a good theory that it may be an open shutter situation where an actual person walking up the stairs appears to be blurry and translucent. It's not a bad theory.

Either that or photoshop.

That's some ugly carpet.
