And You Thought Your Acid Reflux Was Bad
2 Comments
Alien.jpgIn Greece this week, a nine year old girl complained to her family of stomach pains. Perhaps a little too much baklava you may think. Maybe she dipped into the souvlaki one too many times.

You'd be wrong if those were your guesses. Upon being examined by doctors, it was found that the little one was carrying her unborn embryonic twin.

Seriously.

The little girl is okay. She has made a full recovery. That's important to note. The right side of her belly was swollen, but I imagine not too many speculated, "I'll tell you what that is. It's an unborn twin."

The embryo was about two inches long, had a head, hair and eyes, but no brain. Doctors were quoted as saying that one of a set of twins absorbs the other in the womb occur in one of 500,000 live births. A rarity to be sure.

I thought I had heard of this before. A little web search sleuthing found this story. A Kazakhstani boy (please make your own Borat/brother Bilo jokes) had surgery to remove a cyst when ... hello, there's another little guy in there. That boy, who I'm pretty sure was named Hooeylewis Sagdiyev, made a full recovery as well.

So, what have we learned today? If you have a persistent tummy ache, you have a 1 in 500,000 chance it is an unborn embryonic twin still knocking about inside your body. Rolaids may not work.

Now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
