iPod for the Ages

These days, it's hard to walk more than half a city block and not see the classic white ear buds hanging out of someone's head. There was a time when owning an iPod was for the elite. When it was released, they touted it as "1,000 Songs in Your Pocket" and marveled at it being the size of a deck of cards. That was seven years ago.

I'm now on my fourth (though, all of mine still work) and can't imagine life without it. My friend Johnny is proud to say he bought his iPod from the second shipment to ever reach Manhattan. (The first shipment sold out in minutes) The thing is, he never bought another one. He's had the same one for seven years, that is, until it finally died. He writes (tearfully) about the device's passing, and knows that somewhere between Tears in Heaven and The Great Gig in the Sky, it's smiling down on him.

Man, iPods are so overrated. I don't understand what's so great about them that would warrant spending so much more than some other mp3 player. I think their popularity is due mostly to people wanting to jump on the "cool" bandwagon. Just my 2 cents.

thats kind of sad for Johnny. my best wishes to him. don't know what I'd do and fell if mine died right now. for sure I'd be incredibly sad all the way to the store to get a ipod touch. mine is 3+ years old and the battery is not what it once was... *sigh*
