Two pieces of related news from the BBC today

How are they related? The answer, is that my life expectancy just increased dramatically.

Do You RSS?

yesbutnobutyes.gif

I happened to notice that we have nearly 3000 daily RSS subscribers. Which by my reckoning, means that a quarter of all readers on YBNBY do so via our feed. And that also means that a high proportion of our regular readers are consuming our stories that way.

I wanted to just take the time to give a shout out to readers via RSS and let you know I've added a "leave a comment" link on every story, as well as including the recommendation engine links. Would love feedback from you on whether you like this or not, and encourage you to stop by to leave a comment now and again.

And don't forget, you can also subscribe to a comment feed and a breakfast links feed here on the site. (And you can now subscribe to be notified of future comments on a particular story via email, so it's easy to follow a conversation).

Update: Based on feedback I removed the recommendations from the feed. I'll experiment with another extended feed that combines stories and comments, and if I get it working, anyone who wants to transfer to that one, can do do then. Please keep suggestions and comments coming, it really helps plan out future enhancements.

You may see the cross in this photo. But do you see it in this one, after the jump?

Now that's what I call a Rockband

MotleyCrue39.jpgMotley Crue have announced that their new single is to be released first as a playable song for Rockband on Xbox and Playstation, making it the first time a single has been initially released this way.

In related news, Axl Rose announced that he plans to make Chinese Democracy available for in-game listening on Rockstar Game's forthcoming Grand Theft Auto 27 - The Street of Boise, Idaho.

When you don't have to worry about the tragic loss of life, it's hoot to see things blown up. That's why we love building demolitions and implosions. There's a lot of that, today on the veg.

Airing Out the Dirty Laundry

Actress Tricia Walsh-Smith felt frustrated over the consequences of the breakup of her marriage, and posted a video on YouTube to vent. I expected to hear a story of mistreatment or infidelity or at least something sad. But it's all about money and property. She signed a prenup that gives her few rights, and she's angry. Instead of gaining sympathy, the video paints an unflattering portrait of the actress. OK, why does a woman marry a wealthy man 25 years older than she is who won't have sex with her? If it were for career enhancement (he owns a group of Broadway theaters) she should've taken advantage of it so she wouldn't be worried about starving now. And why didn't she read the prenup before signing it? If I read a clause about a man's right to throw me out of our home with 30 days notice, it would cause me to question his love and commitment. YouTubers wasted no time responding with their own videos. Meanwhile, lawyers for both sides of the divorce are scrambling to see what they can do with this public stunt.

On a totally unrelated note, the topic today at Miss Cellania is prostitution.

Over on Color Wars (too complicated for me to explain in a single sentence - think social media playoffs using Twitter - read Ze Frank's description if you're interested in how it started), they've begun a competition where people are recreating photos of themselves from childhood. It's one of those simple but amazing ideas that really needs to be put into book form (and no doubt it probably has been already) (via Waxy)

Virtual or real?

As I watched this demo of the new Google Earth, with photorealistic buildings that you click to get more info on, I suddenly got a huge deja vu flashback to Second Life, and realized that The Matrix is starting to come true. Red pill anyone?

There goes the win streak - Haterade could have had Michael Johns at the bottom - but didn't. Oops. But we start again - and we see who is going to be the most taxed as we have Mariah Carey night.
