I always have to use the phrase 'The US version" in these stories, because - frankly - anyone who thinks Steve Carrell's performance even slightly approaches the genius of Ricky Gervais probably doesn't understand the true nature of comedy (note: comment bait). For those of you who still appreciate the master at work, Gervais is blogging the making of his new movie, This Side of the Truth.

Yep, that's a big paw! This Russian site has a gallery of bear kills, with varying amounts of blood. I think there may be some playing with perspective here, like the giant boar that was in the news a while back. The Babelfish translation was, as usual, no help. There's an increasing trend for "smart food" - stuff you eat not only to satisfy that lonely feeling inside, but also with added health benefits. Now from Japan comes a new zero-calorie "jelly drink" with regenerative, beauty and dieting benefits.

It's name? Placenta. Because - well - it's made from Pig's Placenta. At this point I'd make an "mmmm, tastes like chicken" joke, but apparently it tastes like peaches.

Which reminded me of this clip from a British TV cooking show where a group of women gather around to make Placenta Paté. Although watching the clip, I'm not sure it does a whole lot for the "placenta as beauty supplement" argument.
