I'm Lost

LostTheConstant.jpg

Ok...I started watching what may be the best episode of Lost ever, but halfway through the show my head exploded, And anyone who's ever seen me knows that's not a good look for me.

So I need help again...what the hell is going on with this show. It gets better and better, and weirder and weirder, with each episode. So I have another batch of questions, and only half a head to figure out the answers.

Spoliery questions after the jump.

Constant1.jpg
Before I get to my list of questions, can I just point out how easy it was for Desmond to go AWOL from the British army (or whoever that was) when he needed to get to Oxford to meet Faraday...what's up with that?

Constant2.jpg
But on to more pressing matters...time travel? Is that what they're going to make this whole thing about...time travel? Is this the big secret of the island, or just a side effect for a few lucky individuals who don't get nosebleeds and die. And why was Faraday working on time travel in the first place? And does that mean Desmond will be popping in and out of reality for the remainder of the show?

Timetravel.jpg
And about this time travel thing...do we need to re-examine all the chance encounters that have happened prior to this episode. In a previous Desmond episode, he ran into Charlie singing in the street. Was that planned? And was the "I was just here moments ago" sticker on Charlie's guitar a clue? And what about the old woman in the jewelry store from another old episode...was she a time traveler? She kept Desmond from proposing to Penny...did she know he needed to get to the island because she was there already?

Constant3.jpg
So Desmond is Faraday's constant. Does that mean he played a part in getting Desmond to the island in the first place. And now that we know he's also a time traveler, what did that card game mean?

Journal.jpg
And on the subject of Faraday's journal, what does the Lorentz Invariant have to do with anything? I started reading about it on wikipedia, but I passed out from brain fatigue after the third sentence. Also, another page displays a graph plotting real time, space time and imaginary time. But what about hammer time, business time and beef jerky time.

Constant7.jpg
Charles Widmore bids on a journal from the Blackrock, previoulsy owned by someone in the Hanso family. Why did he want it? Does he already know there's something special regarding where the ship ended up? And does the Blackrock landing on the island have anything to do with that polar bear ending up in Africa. Also, why did he leave the water running? Did he know desmond would pass out? Is Charles Widmore a time traveler? And does anyone have any Tylenol?

Constant6.jpg
And finally...was that a rock on Penny's ring finger?

A more important question is: Why did the sink overflow? What stopped it up?

I'll give you an answer on the first one anyway.

If I remember correctly, he said on the phone that he had a leave coming up that weekend (the next day?). So, no need to go AWOL.

I got the impression that Des got the "time jump problem" because they got off course when going out to the ship, not that it was a general affliction. And that he overcame/fixed the problem by finding a constant in both time periods to hang on to. Hence the importance of the ship to shore call in the end. Possibly was that why Des was Faraday's constant as well?

But these were pretty clearly stated things...Jellio, did you really pay attention? ;-)

As for the rest, I have no idea.

But I like how it's becoming more Twin peaks and less Gilligan's Island again.

You're right on the first question. He tells Penny that he has leave for the next two days, so no need to go AWOL.

As for the time jumping problem, I honestly don't know about this. Seems kind of out of the blue. They said in the show that it seems to happen to those that have suffered from large electromagnetic exposure (is that right?) which Des did when the hatch blew up. Then when they go to or come from the island, those two combined turns into this time jumping issue where only having a constant in their lives is what saves them from a brain aneurysm.

I'm assuming this will lead up to Faraday doing something extraordinary for those on the island. This show really didn't do anything more than give a little more info on Penny and Des, get those two back in touch with each other, and shows Penny's dad buying the book from the boat on the island.

I'm so confused now.....will we ever learn the truth??

Be well........

I kind of thought Charles Widmore leaving the water on was just a dick move on his part. Like he was treating Desmond as the bathroom attendant who is beneath him.
But maybe it could have had a deeper meaning.

I think the time travel thing was disappointing and kind of a cop out. I thought TPTB had already come out and denied alternate dimensions/universes but Desmond knowing he's jumping creates alternate time lines which = alternate universes. But maybe TPTB didn't deny that possibility and I am wrong.

Also, the ring is on Penny's right hand so its probably ok.

//Desmond knowing he's jumping creates alternate time lines which = alternate universes.

In the episode when Des went back in time it was pretty clearly shown that no matter how much he tries to change the future, the universe works around him to make stuff happen anyway.

eg He saved Charlie lots of times but in the end Charlie died.

So no matter what Des does in the past, it doesn't change that he ends up on the island. And no matter what happens next on lost, no amount of time travel is going to prevent Jack from growning a beard and telling Kate that they have to go back to the island.
