Catching up with Slim Goodbody

slim goodbody.jpg

Slim Goodbody, created by John Burstein, was an icon of late 70s kids TV. And sometimes a nightmare in my childhood dreams. Dressed in a skin tight body suit (cause kids love nut huggers?) that displayed all the inner organs of the body, Slim explained how the body worked and encouraged kids to eat, exercise and take care of themselves way before it became the in, smart thing to do.

Fast forward 30 years and you'll find Slim Goodbody still working his gimmick. He's touring schools (minus the afro) and spreading his healthy message. Currently there's 156 National Bodyology shows scheduled in 24 states this year. Hasn't lost that creep factor for me though.

Catch up with another 70's TV institution The Magic Garden.

I love Slim Goodbody, my friend dressed up as him for Halloween. I'll have to dig up some pictures.

Thanks for reviving all these childhood memories, both good and bad.

When I was student teaching Slim Goodbody came to the school for an assembly...but it was a younger guy than this. I think there are Slim Goodbodys running around all over the U.S.

Oh, and also, I think the "eat right, exercise" message stuck with the kids...up until lunch.

Once as a kid, I got into my grandmothers make up. I took the lipstick and drew organs all over my body (just like Slim). When my mom found out she was pissed. I new I was in trouble so I cried my eyes out and luckily mom took a Polaroid for me to remember that traumatizing experience. Still have it, too.
