If thy right hand offends thee...

Back in September, I was considering getting a Tattoo on my shoulder, and polled the readers of YBNBY for input and advice, expecting some tips on where to go, what to get, etc. What I didn't expect was the numerous comments calling me an idiot for even considering a procedure that would permanently scar my body. (Which believe me, is no big deal if you've seen my body).

Maybe I should have asked the question over of the BME community, where they're dedicated to extreme body modification. And what exactly IS body modification? Well, let's hear about "Jason:

Jason is one of thousands of amputees living with a huge secret. Years ago, after a lifetime of anguish due to having an extra hand — essentially a birth defect in his opinion — he took the radical step of amputating this hand just above the wrist.

A tattoo doesn't seem quite so extreme now, does it? You can read the interview with Jason here. And while you're at it, cruise around the BMEZine site, you'll find it quite a page-turner.

Just don't Google "BME Pain Olympics" because it's guaranteed to scar you for life.

Someone got a little cranky over the weekend
3 Comments

So Tina Fey was right...Bitch IS the new Black.

You probably saw clips this weekend of Hillary losing it over two brochures the Obama campaign mailed out in Ohio. (From what I've read, both brochures made valid points) Then on Sunday, she turned to mocking his oratorical style in a very over-the-top manner (clip after the jump). Don't know if this new tactic will work, but it sure will make tomorrow's debate more interesting. And there's a long way to go until the convention.

But here's the thing. I'm an Obama supporter, but lately, the more I think about Obama as President, the more I think about him being an Illinois state senator just three years ago. And that may be fine. It's great to have someone outside the system, he's already done some great things for congressional ethics reform, and he's got great plans for health care, the economy, the environment, etc. But I keep coming back to foreign relations, and how he'll deal with other countries. And it may be stupid, but I keep thinking of Obama in a room with Putin, a guy that worries me more with every Russian protestor that winds up having an unexplained heart attack, and I wonder what the meeting would be like. On the flip side of that coin, I remember Hillary's recent comment about Putin "not having a soul" and Putin actually responding to her quote with "at a minimum, heads of state should have a head", and I think that meeting would be a tricky, too. So, I'm basically more confused as the days go by. One Obama's best traits is that he brings people together, but tough goes a long way.

So what do people out there think? Last time we had a poll about the election, the overwhelming winner of projected Presidential race was Obama vs. McCain. So to the Obama supporters out there...why do you think he would be a good President. Same question to the Hillary supporters...and the McCain supporters, too. I'd like to hear what everyone thinks, because i don't think my mind is made up yet.

Top 10 Women in Video Games
6 Comments

My last entry on video games caused quite a stir on several websites. (I didn't create the video game and, in truth, was attempting to show how over-the-top video games have become.) Reading over the various comments, I began to think about great women in video games. And there weren't many. Video games are tailored to adolescent boys, or in my case, guys in their late 20's attempting to hold onto whatever scrap of youth they have left. By catering to this community, you'll find women with top-heavy bodies wearing skin-tight clothes and, more often then not, trapped in a situation that requires a man to come and save them. Where are the women who aren't simply objects in video games?

I spent roughly 15 minutes compiling this list of great women in video games. I was also drunk. So my authority on the subject is less than stellar. However, I'd love to hear who you think should be added to this list in the comments section below.

YouTube meets Google Adsense

Not sure how new this is, but I noticed this morning in our Adsense account, the ability to create "video ad units", and the above is an example. I guess it was only a matter of time before Google's aquisition of YouTube resulted in this kind of unit, but it's still very underwhelming - they've just inserted a text ad into the frame. I also have no choice over what content goes in the unit itself - I can just choose from broad categories (in this case, "Comedy"). Chalk this one up to "nice try, but no prize".

The Return of SNL

NewSNL.jpg

So what did you guys think of Saturday Night Live. I thought it was pretty good...best it's been in weeks, actually. Loaded with surprises, too...Fred Armisen's Barack, Steve Martin in the monologue, Mike Huckabee on Update, and the biggest surprise of all...Tina Fey stumping for Hillary. That was funny, but I'm not sure if I was into it. One of the best things about SNL is that every topic and everyone is fair game. And having a political endorsement in the middle of it all doesn't seem right. But oh well...still a great first show after the strike.

And for those that missed it, you can see those clips at the NBC site.

- The Oscars weren't the only awards this weekend. Nice job Lindsay.
- Today on Oprah...Valerie Bertinelli on sex, snorting and Spielberg.
- Only 3 days left to vote for Monopoly cities...let's go Kuala Lumpur!
- The new SNL cast member does a mean Rachel Ray...cute, too.
- And this week's New Rules was fair, at best. (The dvd bit was ok)
