If you were a child of the 1970's or early 80's than you may remember Garanimals. A mix and match clothing line that claimed to build self-confidence by teaching young kids to dress themselves. The gimmick was simple, to make an outfit kids matched the animals on the tag - lions pants with lion shirts, monkey skirts with monkey tops, etc.
When the brand was big Dr. Joyce Brothers was the main spokeslady. She went around the local talk show circuit telling parents that their kids would become model citizens if they learned to dress themselves with Garanimals. (So that's where my parents went wrong.)
Well now nostalgia fans, Garanimals is making a comeback with a revamped ad campaign, website and inexpensive price point. The matching idea still exists with updated styles, colors and a few new animal characters.
No word yet on a line extension to help coordination-challenged adults.
