I saw this heartwarming story broadcast over the new NYC taxi TVs and wanted to follow up on it. Turns out these three Chihauhaus - Venus, Carmen and Pablo - are each missing their front legs as the result of a birth defect mostly likely caused by in breeding or backyard breeders. They were turned in and then rescued from a animal shelter in Virginia by the North Shore Animal league New York. They've since be adopted by someone who works at the shelter.

The dogs learned to walk on their hind legs (see video after the jump) but are now fitted with custom-built, aluminum carts. According to the Animal League site, "The carts, used for 10-minute periods at a time, help the dogs maneuver and eliminate some of the stress on their lower spines from walking on their hind legs and from the lack of proper posture."

You may know Melvin best as Sam the Butcher from The Brady Bunch TV show, but that was only one of many roles. He got his show biz break on The Phil Silvers Show in the mid 50s, and was working until the mid 90s. Melvin was Sgt. "27 Dresses" ** (out of four): Katherine Heigl is all dressed up with nowhere to go in Anne Fletcher's embarrassingly trite romantic comedy about wedding bell blues.

It's a good time to be Katherine Heigl. The Emmy-winning statuesque actress has played the smack-worthy Izzie Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy" for four seasons and charmed moviegoers in Judd Apatow's crude crowd-pleaser "Knocked Up." She now continues her plight to be the next Julia Roberts with "27 Dresses," a film that shows why she should be the new reigning queen of the rom-com. She's a knockout without seeming snobby, playful without seeming phony. In short, hard to resist.

"Cassandra's Dream" ** (out of four): The latest London-based Woody Allen movie is marked by Colin Farrell's best performance in years, and a sluggish, predictable script that covers some familiar crimes and misdemeanors.

As a long-time Woody Allen fan, I have a hard time admitting this, but the Woodman's films have been more than a little disappointing of late. Back in the day (say, the 70s), a bad Allen film would be an aberration ("Interiors" comes to mind but even that has its fans). Nowadays, we have to contend with new locations (London? Really?), rehashed plots (even "Match Point" had been done better by Woody himself in "Crimes and Misdemeanors"), and his unhealthy (though not entirely un-understandble) obsession with Scarlett Johansson. The buxom actress is happily absent from Mr. Allen's latest - she's replaced with newcomer Hayley Atwell, who has a genuine British accent. But "Cassandra's Dream" still represents another in a string of disappointments from the once-reliable New York auteur.
